Default So. Angry.

People are so stupid.

I was on a walk with Mammoth this evening through the neighborhood. Being quite arthritic, completely blind, and in dubious control of his rear legs, he can't navigate the woods anymore but I find that he enjoys an evening stroll around the block. The houses are fairly close together, but it's a relatively quiet area.

Well we were walking along and I heard a door open to my right and two doodle-type dogs came sprinting across the road growling and barking at us. Both dogs had their hackles up and were clearly upset at our intrusion into their territory. Understandable.

I immediately started yelling (my go-to of "HEY HEY HEY GIT"), and I looked up to see the owner standing on his porch with his arms folded. The dogs were immediately all over Mammoth (no serious contact but nipping and snarling) and he was just screaming and spinning. He finally fell down and I saw one of the dogs get ahold of his ear and I swung my cane at it and hit it in the head.

The dog shrieked and backed off (meanwhile the other dog was still after Mammoth) and the owner bellowed from the porch, "They're friendly! You'd better not f*cking touch my dogs!"

Needless to say I f*cking touched his dogs back across the street while my dog sat in a pool of his own vomit shrieking and wailing. The owner didn't even put the dogs back into the house and started yelling threats at me. I told him he was next if his dogs ever harassed us again (with a little profanity thrown in).

Mammoth was so distressed that I had to carry him home. As soon as I put him inside he came up lame in the right rear leg.

I am so absolutely infuriated. I was in tears the whole way home. I understand that accidents happen: dogs get out. My dogs are not friendly and are always on leash around others, but I realize that people make mistakes and that's fine. But to stand on the g*dd*mn porch while your dogs punch holes in mine?

I'm also torn up about hitting the dogs. I don't like hitting dogs. I have no idea if I caused any damage. It's certainly possible. I hit them as hard as I could. Why the f*ck would you put your dog in a position where somebody felt they have to defend themselves against it? I'm sure they were fine animals. It's not their fault that their jack*ss owner didn't care enough about them to keep them safe or remove them from a dangerous situation.

I'm so sick of dog fights. I want to go back to Maine where I'm lucky to see another dog once a week. And it's always under voice control.

D@mn. Talk about a total dickhead.

How is Mammoth? Calming down any? Do you have any Rescue Remedy? Please give him a good ear rub from me <3

Yes, call AC or the police, heck, maybe both since the guy was being threatening toward you....

Holy smokes. I have no advice beyond what others have said. Is Mammoth okay, not any punctures?

Definitely call the police. I'd be filing a report for both his and his dogs' behavior, and sending him vet bills. (((hugs))) to you and the big guy.

Holy sh!t what a arsehole. Mammoth better now?

Me and my little Kuvasz are routinely harassed by a Golden and Berner puppy named Cooper and Chloe respectively. Katalin at this point is un-offended by this but both of us have been spooked/startled by it on many occasions. I've yelled many a time at the Golden's owner - she lets him off leash in her UNFENCED front yard as she gardens. Her response: "Oh sheesh he's so friendly!". Ya - my LGD might not be so easy going about being jumped apon pretty soon....

He's finally starting to settle down. He's still a little sore but I popped him a Rimadyl and he's sleeping.

Bailey was with us too, though, and in the tussel apparently received a pretty significant laceration right along his browline. I didn't even see it happen: it must have been after I pulled the first dog off and was fighting with the second one

The guy's an asshole, but my parents don't want to make trouble with the neighbors so I haven't made any calls...you can bet I will be bringing pepper spray next time.

(((hugs))) Thanks, y'all. It's nice to have people who get it

Edit: No RR unfortunately. We used to keep it on hand for Liberty but we just ran out. As for punctures, Mammoth has a real thick coat and was luckily just drooly and sore from falling and being carried (there really is no comfortable way for me to carry a dog that weighs nearly what I do )
