Bizzare but beautiful (may be disturbing to some)

Videos like this just don't do it for me (in any sense of the expression ). It's too much exhibitionism. The gratuitousness of the sexuality and violence is just provoking an audience reaction where otherwise there would be none. The animation isn't particularly breathtaking or creative...it just reads like a poorly-filmed porno with a second-rate director and way too much money to throw into special effects.

It's just over-the-top: compensating for the lack of any real creative voice or direction (IM slightly-less-than-humble O)

Well, the Japanese have the tentacle obsession because for some reason they aren't allowed to animate penises. Or vaginas, for that matter. They have a weird aversion to gentalia. When they have a full frontal of a woman in an anime (or manga) they just don't draw the vagina on. It's really weird.

I do really like anime though. I'm not into porn, but even in regular anime you will have some risque stuff. Girls with giant boobs, typically scantily clad, sexual tensions, and even relationships between older men and younger women are par for the course in anime (wider age gaps are more acceptable in Japan than they are in the US). However, I believe the Japanese tell some of the best stories ever!

The first anime I ever watched was Zatch Bell, it is pretty tame as far as anime goes. It is about a bunch of Demon children (Mamodo in the English dubbed they played on cartoon network) who came to our world to battle it out to be King of their world. The losers die. There is tremendous character growth and development, and even scenes that made me cry. I recommend the anime and the manga.

I also love Sergeant Frog -frog aliens came to our planet to conquer it, but are painfully stupid. It is like a cross between Excel Saga (an anime of pure hilarious pointlessness) and Invader Zim. Soul Eater is a good one, also X'amed, and for some oldies but goodies look up The Slayers, and Ranma 3000.

Anime can be raunchy, but it is also very touching at times, it's exciting, and almost always funny as hell. That's why those of us who watch anime enjoy it so much! Then, you have the sect that likes straight up animated pornography. I'm not one those, lol.

If I recall correctly, it's straight up illegal. It's also illegal to depict pubic hair.

Oh my gosh Sergeant Frog sounds amazing!!!! Gonna have to check it out. Now. The Slayers and Ranma were staples back in high school. Orphen was pretty fun too.

Ive never liked anime, I find the extreme faisl expressions and dumb girls really annoying. This video was just...way more than I ever wanted to see. Who thinks of these things??

I love anime. Locke.. not all anime has over the top expressions. There is as much variety in anime than any other genre. Its like saying one dislikes comedy because slapstick is over the top. Sure it is (though some like that) but not all comedy is like that.

That said, on the OP. I saw that when it came out a year or two ago. I liked the song and hunted it down. The animation didn't do much for me. For outright beautiful I will go watch some Howl's Moving Castle.

I'd definitely recommend Miyazaki to anyone who says they don't like anime. Ponyo and Howl's are really good ones to start with.

Unico was actually my first experience with anime. I was 3-4 years old when I first saw it, and I LOVED it.

That said, the video from the OP isn't what I consider to be "beautiful" anime. I don't like anime porn/tentacles, and none of the stuff I've watched is anything like that!

I'd seen this before on a different forum, and it's just odd. There's nothing beautiful about it. Animation and choreography wise, I've seen much better. All this reminds me of is those cheap "shock" websites and videos that were so popular a few years ago where something would jump out at you in the middle of a peaceful, quiet video or whatnot.

Meh, anime just doesn't do much for me. Some if it is OK, but mostly it just isn't my thing. My husband's family is really into though.

Vampyre Hunter D and Mermaid's Scar got me hooked on anime YEARS ago.

Haven't watched the link -- this internet connection has gotten so slow that anything longer than a couple of minutes makes me crazy.
