Default What's Your Poison?

Scarves, hobbies, house repairs? The thread about which scarf to choose caused me to think about how different we all are in what we will spend money on. Those scarves were beautiful but sooooo pricey. (to me) I'd never spend that much money on something like that. And yet, I'm spending way, way over what I planned on this landscaping project I've been working on all summer. I'm so over budget, I could have put hardwood floor all over my main level or if it needed it, I could have renovated an entire kitchen and all my bathrooms, crown molding could have been put all over. I could have bought a new car. Holy cow!

So, I'll spend money on my house or yard. My yard is to be an extension of my living space and a sort of sanctuary...a zen place. lol. I'm very affected by my environment. It has so much to do with how I feel...my moods, connections. (I sound like a hippy) I'll go for certain hobbies and put a fair amount into what I like to do. My art work, my education. I'll be somewhat frugal with things like groceries, but I don't say "no" to much as long as it's healthy and quality. I have fun buying things for my kids or helping them out when desperate... when I can. I'll go to the ends of the earth for my dogs if they require special care...when practical or helpful. But clothes aren't one of my big interests. I do what I have to do to not look like a ragamuffin. LOL. And even once in a while, I will splurge a little...like when I lost weight. But still...very conservative and pretty cautious about my money going out for that sort of thing. Where shoes are concerned, I do spend quite a bit because I have trouble with my feet a little bit. So, not so many pairs of shoes, but good ones.

So, what interests do have where you tend to spend quite a bit of your money and what kinds of things do you hold back on or be careful about. (Or is this a rude kind of question?)

^^^^^ that!

Most of mine is spent on the kids, house needs. I dont think Jeremy or I have actually been shopping for our selves out of necessity the entire time we have been together. Our extra money goes into house stuff or things for the family.

Most of my money gets spent on the dogs. Classes (when I still had to pay for them) were HUGE, collars, leashes, books, accessories, etc. My other hobbies aren't nearly as pricey. I spend some money on yarn and fabric and crafting accessories but it's not anywhere near the scale of the dogs. Maybe once I FINALLY pay off my school loans I can have a really expensive hobby. Or lots and lots of yarn. Lol

Frodo! But I'm really trying to scale back after going to the UofM, and realizing that I can give him a life that is 99 times better than the average pet home without my whole paycheck going to him. He doesn't need raw food every day and bully sticks multiple times per week! He doesn't need a new collar every other month!

My paychecks are pretty dismal, so anything that isn't going to rent/student loans/bills pretty much goes to groceries. I LOVE cooking, so I don't mind a ton, it just sucks when I have to forgo cool stuff (like the awesome rat wheel and some kitchen equipment that I've been wanting) so I can have food in the apartment.

Lately we have just been hoarding money saving for a house but other than that most goes to the horses, guns, and boats.

I splurge on purses occasionally in the 800$ range but rare occasion.

I put a lot of money into my old motorcycle (the new one not so much), now that I think about it. I tend to spread it out so it doesn't feel like as much, but it has been a big investment and it only runs for fifteen or twenty minutes at a stretch before something else breaks! As a kid, we did a lot of sharing and we rarely had the permanence of "this is my ____ (toy/money/whatever)" as it was liable to be needed elsewhere. The bike was the very first thing that belonged completely to me. I spent hours and hours locked up in the garage pulling things apart and sanding and welding and getting all my thinking done at once.

I mainly spend extra money on either ebooks or the animals. Though I have a really bad habit of ordering out, usually sushi or thai.

I like leather coach bags. I have more expensive taste but can't spend two grand on a bag.
