Question My dog is driving himself nuts Help!!!

Hi all. There are some really cute pics on this site. My doxie has developed OCD and my vet has prescribed an anti-anxiety medication-Prozac, I believe. Has anyone had any luck w/ this med? Has anyone had success w/ another treatment. I feel so sorry for my little guy. He's driving himself and all of us nuts!!!!

We might be able to help if you can describe the obsessive behavior.

First of all I'd like to know how many opinions you've gotten on his condition?

I too suggest a second opinion. Prescribing mood alterants for a dog should be a last resort option, not one of the first.

What are his behaviors? Does the vet know for sure that it is OCD and not seperation anxiety or something else?

Thanks for your replies. My dog is a doxie. I have had him since he was a puppy-he's 1 1/2. Recently we got a new puupy-I thought he would enjoy the company. About two weeks ago, about a month after the puppy came home, he started pouncing, biting and digging on the couch. We thought he smelled something or was after his shadow. The behavior, however, has now become his prominent activity and is taking place on every surface, even outside. He seems to stare at things that are not there. I feel really badly for him because he truly looks as if he's lost his mind. He's still eating etc... but is not as social or playful because he's 'obbsessed' with whatever he is 'seeing.' We have upped his walks etc, but nothing has worked. I have gotten two opinions, but am having a hard time finding articles...on the topic. I would love to hear any thoughts. He is very sweet w/ the puppy, but doesn't pay as much attention to her as he did. Sorry for the long message, but specifics are hopefully helpful. thanks so much!
