You're lucky she went to you... I'm that neighbour who just yells out the window "SHUT YOUR DOG UP", most of the time it probably has some more... colourful words in there.. It's rude to let your dog make lots of noise when you live in a neighbourhood with neighbours close by. Especially in the summer when people will likely have their windows open. Yes, *you* are awake. Yes, *you* already worked today. 2/5 people here, myself included, work nights. Do I let my dog bark and make noises at night because I am awake and I don't have to be up for work in 4 hours? No, so have the same respect.

It's part of living in a neighbourhood. Through the good and the bad, at the end of the day, you have neighbours you have to think about too.

/end on-but-off-topic rant

Regardless, it doesn't sound like they were making much noise, but I agree, just be glad she came to you rather than making a complaint!

I don't mind if the dogs rough house/make a bit of noise through the day, as long as it isn't constant. I don't mind if they are making noise for a few minutes but when it comes to night, I make sure they are quite. I think some people take it over the top, getting annoyed if dogs are playing and being noisy here and there while having a small play session.

Pfft, here in the summer everyone has windows SHUT, air conditioner going 24/7, and fans on full blast on top of that.

The last apartment I was in I used to startle people becuuse they had NO idea a dog was living there. Gavorche never barked, and he was there as an ESA since it was no-pets. So we'd just walk by and people would do a double take lol. The land lord told me she was just SURE there was this one person that was going to throw a FIT about Gavroche being there, but I never, ever saw anyone have any sort of problem with him. All I ever got was praise over how good and quiet he was. I never had any problems with other dogs barking because it was no-pets and Gavroche was the only dog in the whole complex.

Then we moved into a trailer park, and there were tons of dogs. For the most part they were good and didn't bark until you got up close to their yard, though the bitchy neighbor across the street had a loud, annoying dog. but what was worse was the kids screaming outside at all hours of the way and night. Somehow it's not okay for a dog to play and make noise, but it's perfectly acceptable for kids to SCREAM the entire time they're outside. Give me a barky dog any day!

Yah, I don't have air conditioning in the upper levels where the bedrooms are LOL and fan on doesn't help if there's only stagnant hot air

ETA: oh I yell at kids to STFU all the time. There's a school yard for screaming, or the park.

Ah the joy of no longer having any real direct neighbours!

That's pretty much what our neighborhood is like. Three of our neighbors have multiple beagles, and the homeless camp just added a very rambunctious GIANT rottie mix puppy who alerts to everything. lol.

Unless you're (general you) able to live in a bubble there's going to be noise. Dogs, kids, buses, trains, ambulances, airplanes, blah blah blah. While people should be considerate, if someone has special considerations like working weird hours, it makes sense for them to take extra measures to minimize distractions. Like a white noise machine, or blackout curtains if light bugs them. Stuff like that. It doesn't make sense, nor is it effective, to expect the rest of the world to conform to your personal scheduling requirements.

I don't expect them to conform, I expect them to be considerate of others I'm sure mothers with sleeping babies would be thankful, too

It's not even like it's just a little screaming or barking or yelling -- I have slept through 3 fire trucks while the house next door burned down, a drive-by shooting in front of my house and numerous ambulances that come to the retirement home almost nightly. I'm not talking about a little screaming or barkin in the distance, I mean literally on my property (where they shouldn't be to begin with)

TBH, I don't want to hear their dog continually barking or child continually screaming while I'm awake, either

Well yeah, people shouldn't be trespassing. I have a baby who is a light sleeper. Sometimes stuff wakes him up. That's life though, and we deal with it. I used to work graveyard at a nursing home and had a figure out a sleep schedule for that too. Was glad to get out of that job, for multiple reasons (mostly the dead people).

Evidently it's a area thing, because people here "deal with it" by coming out and yelling that their baby was sleeping and to stfu

People in general are really laid back in this part of the country. lol. I'm having a hard time imagining part of Canada like you describe, but I've only been to BC which is pretty much the same as here only more laid back.
