Default ER or not?

So I got dizzy and blacked out and hit my head. I've got a bump on my forehead, feeling ok other than a headache and a bit of dizzyness still. Called into work mainly because I didn't think it was safe to drive right now. I put ice on it and am drinking some water as I think it happened because I was dehydrated.

My problem is now I don't know when you absolutely should go to the ER and when it's not absolutely necessary. I'm leaning towards not going, but I don't really know.

Any suggestions? Anyone know when you should definitely go to the ER or if it sounds like a sit and wait type thing?

I don't know the rules. What I do know though is no matter what do not go to sleep, stay awake, call a friend, do whatever you need but stay awake.

I'll let others chime in about the ER.

I would go in to be safe. Head injuries make me nervous.

Thanks, I know not to fall asleep, though it doesn't help that I'm super tired to begin with. >_<

Head trauma and chest pains are two things I always suggest going in for (if you think you might need to or you're in doubt). The worst that's going to happen is that you're fine and get to eat an insurance co-pay (if you're worried, insurance will nearly always pay out any tests run when presenting head trauma or chest pain regardless of outcome).

rule in my house is , watch the pupils , if they dont cantract at the same rate or one stay fixed , call ambulance.

are you alone? if not , chill with a ice pack and see what happens.

if you are alone , then maybe get someone to come sit with you.

the front of the head is one of the stronger spots , now if it is one the side near the temple , then go in.

drink plenty of fluids and get into your regular doc as soon as you can.

You guys think Urgent Care would be able to deal with a head injury? At the very least they are a bit cheaper if I do decide to go in.

My insurance is absolute crap. I don't know how much it will actually pay for an ER visit. hm....

Not alone right now but I wil be in an hour or so, which should say wiether i need to go in or not I'm sure. I think I'll wait it out for a bit to see how I feel and if it get's any worse I'll go in.

All right, so the right side of my face down from the bump to my neck is a tiny bit swollen. Now I'm back on the fence darnit.

I'd get checked out, but I've had a lot of concussions and head injuries. Don't drive yourself. Get a friend or a family member to bring you in.
