Honestly I don't have strong feelings about it one way or the other except to say that it's just not the kind of thing I care to see legislated.
I agree with this quite strongly.

I also can't stop comparing this thread to all the docked/cropped threads

I would think early retraction would certainly be likely to invite more infections!
agreed!!

I'm almost of the opinion that circumcision should be illegal. Children cannot give consent therefore it should be illegal. We don't do it to girls, why should it be legal with boys?

I am already on record on this on chaz, but I was circ'd as an adult in my 30's for medical reasons. I had already fathered both of my children prior to the surgery.

The recovery was a little rough, especially when you consider how many times a man gets an erection during sleep (those stitches pull). From a sensation standpoint, sex is largely the same, and according to my wife, it feels the same to her.

Function-wise, I had to learn how to pee again. Aiming was different without the foreskin redirecting the stream.

As for the subject of the thread - it's one of those things that I wouldn't necessarily choose to do to my infant boys, but I wouldn't want to see it made illegal. There is too much legislation as it is.

I vote for illegal (yes, even if you have religious reasoning behind it). I don't think it's too much to ask that a person has the right to remain with all of their body parts until adulthood. As mentioned, do you think I should be able to cut off my (hypothetical) daughter's clitoral hood?

For me I'm totally willing to make the deal that I can't tell a boy/man what they do with their body and in return they can't tell me what I do with mine.

But really don't have any feelings about it either way.

I'm not trying to bring up the abortion issue again in terms of arguing its legality, but I find it a bit weird to think that killing a baby boy in utero is ok (and ok when partially delivered), but cutting off his foreskin is not.

My pediatrician was very factual about it. I do believe he would've preferred me to leave them be, but he was also honest in his experience with the possible health effects of being uncircumsized.

It was tough for me, because when Cole was born, he was too small to do the procedure. He was actually 10 weeks old (2 weeks after his full-term due date) before he could have his done. A pediatric surgeon did the procedure. First they put a numbing cream on the penis, and allowed that to sit for approx. 35 minutes. Then he gave a numbing injection into the area before removing the skin. I was instructed to give Cole Tylenol every how-many-hours they said, whether I could tell if he needed it or not. I will honestly say (I'm always honest, but just trying to emphasize that here ) that Cole never cried about it. I was very proactive in keeping him in a clean diaper and keeping petroleum jelly on it.

My other 2 had theirs done before leaving the hospital.

All 3 of mind have a teeny bit of the foreskin left. None of the docs that did the circumsions remove every last bit of the foreskin. So it's like a little wrinkle of skin at the tip. I do have to pull it back ever-so-slightly to make sure all is squeaky clean. My pediatrician is actually quite happy with how theirs turned out.

And I'm sorry, but I cannot see the comparison with the removal of the foreskin and cutting off a girl's clitoris and sewing her labia shut to the point that it only allows for urine and menstrual fluids to come out.

DH is intact. His is the only penis I've seen, so I can't really do a comparison-lol. I don't know if I would keep an infant boy intact or not--I lean towards intact though. DH did say that he got an awful infection from not washing properly when he was a kid.

I don't think it should be illegal though. Yes, the parent is making a choice about the child's body, but there are tons of choices parents make about their kids concerning their health without the child's consent--smoking/drinking while pregnant, smoking around kids, feeding them fast food, pop, and junk food constantly--all of these things are far more likely to have a negative impact on the child's future health than circumcising.
