We're going to a CAT event tomorrow. It will be Lucy's first time seeing a lure. She's incredibly prey driven and motion sensitive, so I'm thinking she will chase...but any helpful hints or suggestions to prep for going?

Wear shoes that have grip and aren't open in the top. The scrabbling to go for the lure can be painful on the feet. I brought a ball with me for Kastle to hold while he waited his turn, it cut down drastically on the barking. I also then used it to get him off the lure when his run was done. A leash that won't hurt your hands. Tell the person running the motor that you're new. They were really, really helpful on playing the lure back and forth until Kastle was brave enough to chase it.
Kastle's first run (so you can see them tease him with the lure):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRj5GseTa1A His title run:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1N68op7e7A

Thank you! Definitely planning on sneakers!
She's not ball driven at all, but I'll throw some bully sticks in the "diaper bag" (as my husband calls my dog gear) for the same reasons you mentioned. Kastle's first run is so funny--like, "Move faster you stupid things, then I'll chase you!" |
