I'm getting ready to go to WyrdCon with Elsie and my boyfriend (Elsie gets to hang out at our booth and stay in the hotel), and was going over Elsie with the brush, and found a lump on her hip. It's about the size of a pea, hard, with a scab on top. She's been biting at the spot for a couple of days, so it's itchy, but when I pinched at it a little she didn't react. She's not stoic, so that means it didn't hurt much. When I went over her on Monday, there was nothing there.
I called my dad, and he said we can take her in to the vet on Monday if it's still there. I'm going to keep a close eye on it over the weekend. I'm hoping it's just an inflamed bug bite or similar, but I'm pretty nervous. I haven't seen any biting insects (like fleas or ticks) on her, but she does like to fight ants and chase bees/wasps, so she could have been bitten/stung. We also have these small spiders that, when they bite people, leave hard lumps like that, so that's a possibility too, I guess. Anyway, I'd really appreciate some 'vibes'/reassurance. :] |

Definitely sounds like a bug bite or similar that she's been scratching at. Especially since it has a scab on top.

Vibes that it heals up on its own. Sounds a bit like what I see every once in a while after a tick bite - sometimes scabby sometimes not, but it goes away on its own in a week or several.

Thanks, Jess. It doesn't look/feel infected right now; it's not red or pink or hot or pussy.
I've gone over her all over and haven't been able to find any insects on her, so if that's what it was, it's gone now. |

Payton got something like that on his leg when he was a puppy. It looked pretty bad but it healed up pretty fast. Still no idea what caused it, but bug bite of some kind was my best guess at the time too. Hopefully it will heal fast on Elsie too!

Thanks everyone!
This helps a lot; I am prone to overreacting, and was thinking about canceling our trip. We're leaving now, and we'll only be an hour from home, so it's not a big deal. |

I'm sure it'll be fine, just a garden variety bite of some kind........think positive!
