Default Info please on canine bone cancer?

My dog was diagnosed with bone cancer and the vet says maybe she has six months. She is on pain meds (Tramadol) and seems to be comfortable for the time being. Some days she is listless and her eyes look like she might be in pain. She has a little trouble getting up from arthritis, but she does not have a limp.I want to know if anyone can tell me what signs i will see when she is starting to experience pain or when it is getting near the time to put her down. We will not let her suffer but we want to keep her as long as she can be with us. Thank you in advance for your help.

I do not have experience with bone cancer so cannot help you in that regard, but I just wanted to extend my condolences. I lost my dog to aggressive lymphoma on March 31st and seeing the cancer just eat him up inside was awful. We wanted to keep him with us as long as possible too, so we opted to fight the cancer (chemo, prednisone, etc.) aggressively as long as he still seemed to get enjoyment out of life. When it was obvious that the meds were no longer working and he was uncomfortable, we let him go.

I think one of the best things we did was have a vet come to our house. It was so nice for him and for us to be able to say goodbye in our living room, and he wasn't stressing about being at the vet's place. If you can, try and see if the vet you like (or one of them, if you see multiple like us) would be willing to come to the house. It's also nice if they have met him before and know you.

Anyway, I am so sorry you have to go through this. Cherish the 6 months you have left and enjoy your girl. ((hugs))

My heart is breakng for you & your sweet furgal! I faced this with Farley just a short time ago. He had one of his front legs amputated and did well for just shy of 6 mos. before he let us know it was time. You will know when the meds are no longer helping and it is time. Spoil her and create more good memories to keep in your heart in the time you have left together.
