You find the most health problems in white animals - especially if they were bred from mutations, as they usually are.

Yes, a lot of white animals do tend to have some health issues, such as being deaf, blind, etc. I do think they have pretty coats but I don't at all agree with breeding to get them. You should breed to try to better the breed, and that would mean you want to try to eliminate health problems, not keep them going.

Serena - this question got me curious about something - would a responsible breeder know if there was the gene for a white one somewhere in the lineage of the two dogs they were wanting to breed? Maybe that is a silly question, but I have always wondered how specifically a breeder knows that one of the dogs may have some fault somewhere. (I am just curious - don't worry I am not breeding anything Brady is plenty for me to handle). I was really curious because I love GSD's and I think they are wonderful and I love to learn about them.

I don't like people trying to breed 'Albino' German Shepherds, but I don't mind White Shepherds. (Which are not Albino.)

Originally when my husband and I were looking at getting a puppy last year, we were going to get a GSD. I have books that I bought on them, I had looked into different breeders in my area, I had looked on the internet about them to try to learn as much as possible. Then one day my mom called me and said her secretary's sister had a dog that had 13 puppies. She said they were so cute, but that she was taking them to the shelter if she could not get rid of them. I still wanted a German Shepherd, but I thought I would take a look. Of course, I fell in absolute LOVE with Brady, he was the fattest, fluffiest one of them all, so I took him, and I never looked back, and at 70 pounds of pure love-he is my boy, but I still do find the GS breed very interesting. Brady actually has another friend down the street who was rescued from the shelter and is is part German Shepherd named Birgir and he is gorgeous and a sweetheart. He has the biggest ears ever and he and Brady just love to wrestle around and play.

Now I know if I have any GSD questions to come to you.
