We kinnda have somthing like that here as well. It was somthing I looked into in Sparwood. S/N dogs cost $15 a year to register andintact dogs cost $30 a year. I plan on registering my dogs in Sparwood since we will be living in town.

I know right now my dogs and my parents dogs are not registered with the city, but I dont think they really enforce the Bylaw.

If I was legal about it, it'd be about $50 a dog. I feel strongly enough about it to tell the county to KMA as our licensing/reg fees don't go to AC or programs but the black hole that is the general fund. I live with the potential for a fine but oh well.

Pet owners will not be charged for registering their pets as the city wants to encourage registration.

Pet owners can also register and apply for a permit to keep additional pets - this request will never be unreasonably denied but is in place to prevent unhealthy or abusive homes.
Umm i don't really see the issue. It doesn't seem to cost money to register your dogs with the town there unlike over here. Just register them, it's free. Then you won't have to risk the fine if they check (and usually they uphold the bylaw pretty good when they first come out with it).

Its not the fine, its the legal removal of the animals that I have an issue with.

Actually, they are charging for additional dogs. This is going to cause a massive spike in dumping of dogs (which it did when they just suggested the by law) and when people don't register them, which they won't, they rake in the money.

It grinds my goat because I work in the forefront of pro bono vet care. Let's rather sort out those that refuse to care for their dogs!

Care to link where you're reading this? From what it sounds like in that link and on the Cape Town website is that you just have to submit a form to request permission to have more animals but that's it, no fees, since they want to encourage people to license their pets.

Are you even currently breeding? Or is this "outrage" more of a "i just want to be able to whenever i want" type thing?

I filled out my application form and received a response email saying "please note this does not serve as permission to keep additional pets. You will be notified of costs involved once we have reviewed your forms"

What I am outraged about is as follows: I don't appreciate my government having a say in how many animals I have, what they are and how I keep them. By all means enforce animal cruelty laws. I am all for that and will gladly submit to inspection on that.

I don't think the government has any right to limit my choices on my pets or tell me that they will or will not allow me to keep the ones I already have.

I don't think they have a right to impound my animals just because they are not on "their list".

They WILL not have township dogs registered nor will they try. They will not enforce the law to those who constantly fly below the radar of the law. Its for law abiding citizens only.

I am more then happy to register my animals, no problem there, but do not threaten my animals. Don't evem try!

I hate it as well, and understand you....

I don't think it's always done fur the right reasons and they hassle the wrong people in my area, and turn blind eye to the puppy mill/ horse mill/ bird mill up the road!

Here they (at least a few years ago) also had a rule you could not even apply for a kennel license unless your breed was KC registered and you could prove it... Again all the while turning a blind eye to above mill!!!

Exactly! If I thought these laws applied to everyone I wouldn't have a problem with it at all!

I also don't see why I need to apply for permission to breed my dogs.

Dogs are licensed here too, but IF there are any laws about breeder licenses here, they are by county, not statewide. I don't think there are though. I know they don't go around knocking on doors or anything, the licensing law is only enforced if they are called out for something else. They'll tack it on to the list of charges.

I agree with you puppydog, they shouldn't be able to tell you what kind of dogs you can have, how many, or if you can breed them. I know many of us on this forum feel the same about that, that's why we oppose MSN and BSL so vehemently. I HATE pet limit laws. Hate hate hate them!! FOHA has two dogs right now that were owner surrenders and the ONLY reason they were surrendered is because the county told the woman she was over the pet limit. That STUPID law put two additional dogs in the system that had a perfectly good home. Those dogs stressed and barked and gnashed their teeth at us for two weeks before they finally settled down. I can actually pet them now, and they lick me and wag their tails.
