Customer comes into work today. Dog is allergic to a crapload of stuff, he's currently eating California Natural and is doing fine on it. BUT they don't like how expensive it is. This dog is allergic to chicken, venison, peas, potatoes, carrots, eggs, and probably some other stuff (this is at least what they believe he's allergic to). So um, off the top of my head I didn't know what to recommend, so I went around the store examining ingredients.... Canine Caviar was a good fit but of course too expensive...
So then they grab a bag of Science Diet and go "hey, what about this? I don't think it has any of the things he's allergic to...." Uhhhh I'm sure there is plenty in that food that won't agree with him if he's as sensitive as they say. I told them as far as quality goes, it was downgrading. I asked them if they have considered or even heard of a raw diet. "Oh no, we've been through so much with him, we don't want him to get sick again." THEN WHY ARE YOU CHANGING HIS FOOD. "He was so sick, it was so hard to get him better again, we don't want to go through that again. But, I think we're going to give this Science Diet a try." WHAT. THE. HECK!!! So stupid. CalNat is really not that expensive. Ugh.

Erggg, from what I've seen, SD is actually MORE expensive than CN in a lot of cases.
*slaps head*

Welcome to my everyday
![]() The people that come in and go "fix my dog, I don't care what it costs!" are my favorite, and make these people a little more tolerable. |

I genuinely love the people that really just want to do whatever it takes to resolve the problem. A few weeks ago a lady came in, her lab was constantly battling ear infections and wouldn't stop licking his paws. She agreed to give Blue Buffalo Wilderness a try. I can't remember what low quality food she had been feeding him. Came back in a couple days ago to get another bag of Wilderness because her dog's problems had completely went away and she was soooo ecstatic and I was just as happy for her.

This is my everyday, too. Sometimes multiple times in one day.
![]() I've had everything from "NutriSource? $40 a bag? That's waaaaay too much money for a DOG!" to "My 100 lb dog needs raw? Both of my 100 lb dogs need raw? Let's feed them PRIMAl!" *sigh* It takes all kinds.

Usually the customers I deal with are pretty savvy or at least willing to take in suggestions. These people just wanted to do whatever it took to save a couple bucks. I guess its not even really the brand that matters... If your dog is that sensitive and you finally got something to work, stick with it! I definitely wanted to smack my head into a wall the moment they left.

If someone feeds *cheaper* food because it's all their current budget will allow that's the way it must be, there's nothing they can do... Though the ones who just think their dog is not *worth* better food, and could easily afford it make me a bit Ill..... ESP if said dog has health issues! It's hard to tell when someone is too embarrassed to admit that's all they can afford tho, and they may say its overpriced just to avoid saying they can't afford it.... |
