Okay, I know nothing about CPE, but a friend asked me to go to a trial with her to support her baby dog, so I figured I'd enter Lucy. Question is, what level do I enter her at (apparently you can start at 1-3?)
We are currently Q-ing regularly in novice NADAC courses (almost have our 10 Q's in each class to move to open), running masters level AKC courses in class (totally different, I know), and have successfully trialed at this venue before. I don't want to do level 1 if there won't be any challenge there, but if there are significant challenges in 3 that might be too much for me, since we've never played CPE's rules before. Can someone describe the difference in levels? I am basically deciding if we are going to do 2 or 3 (as I want her to see weaves, so level 1 is out). Thanks! |

I would start level 3.

I would start in Level 3 as well.
Though the good thing in CPE, as long as she doesn't Q you can always move down to Level 1 or 2. In most games, you'll fine Level 1 and 2 combined, sometimes 2 and 3, and then sometimes 3/4/5/C. As long as she has weaves and can work away from you in Jackpot/Gamblers you'll do fine in Level 3.

Thanks, guys! I had put 3 on the premium, but I got the trial confirmation today and panicked that I was jumping ahead too quickly.
I hope we fall in love with CPE because that would open up more trial opportunities for us (I don't like the jump heights in USDAA, and Lucy is not cut out for the loooooong days of AKC around here). I really enjoy NADAC, but it's so different from how we train that I feel like we're at a disadvantage sometimes. CPE seems much closer to our instructor's AKC style. |

Yeah I don't know if you've done AKC at all but on average level 3 is still pre-Novice AKC.

Instead of a new thread does anyone have a good link for examples of level 1 courses? I'm considering a last minute registry for B to practice a trial setting but I'm not sure if he's ready.
Additionally where should I start Sloan? She's in open in akc, both courses, but Denis would be handling for the first time in a trial.

The problem is that once you start in a level, you have to finish that level before moving up. Best bet is to start as high as you can so you don't waste money and time piddling around in the lower levels if you can avoid it.

Our standard course in January was basically a big circle. I think I front crossed once between a tunnel and aframe. Like, easy-peasy.

If you get the time I would love to see examples. I am sending in my registration at lunch, we'll see if it gets there in time.
