Sounds like awesome weekends for everyone!

No Q for Mimi in our first open jumpers run yesterday, though I'm really happy with how she ran! Two strides out from the first jump she got 'the look' that says she's about to tuck butt and run. Got creative to go around the obvious jump choice in favor of an off course jump, I threw in a couple extra front crossed to slow her down a bit, only other real 'mistake' we had was missing the last weave pole which I knew was a potential problem with a full set. The rest of them were fast and she was having fun, kind of borderline crazy face, while I'll take any day!

Earned her second novice standard Q! It wasn't pretty, still borderline zoomies, but we were on turf which is definitely her favorite. Missed a jump while she was making eyes at the A frame, and missed a tunnel entrance once, but nailed her weaves on the first try (only 6), had a fast teeter and didn't launch pad off the broad jump! I have the run on video, I need to try and post it only for the tunnel refusal and my choice of commands. "Chute! Jump! Tunnel!" She remains in handler focus after the jump and we run up on the tunnel entrance. We're stopped at this point, I'm pointing at the entrance. "That tunnel right there!" Oh! In she goes!

Congrats on the QQ!

This is Recon's snooker run from yesterday - only team to go for 51 points and accomplish it! Pretty happy with him- one of our nicer runs. Also, it was awesome to trial under the judge I train with, compete with, and work with!

One of only TWO teams to even attempt 51 points! Way to go! Recon is looking awesome!

Thanks all!!! I'm very proud of the little Kimma girl <3

I actually also just had the BEST class with Jari. He's been so out of his mind with hormones and needing to sniff all the things and play with all the dogs/people, and it was really looking like we would have to take a long break from agility and work on just focus. Which is fine by me, seeing as that's what I did with Kimma and it worked out really well. Well he must have heard me talking to my instructor or something because today he was AWESOME. There was a nosework class going on right next to us, and people/other dogs watching us train, and he was focused. No running to the other dogs, and he only ran to my instructor once to say hi then he continued right along with me.

I really hope this is how it's going to continue to be because it was great. He's going to be a really fun dog to run. He was even barking with excitement while running which I think is hilarious

Videos from class last night. She had such a blast, as usual. It was probably our best class yet, IMO. We had trouble with the pinwheel in the beginning (my fault), but we worked through it and she was doing a great job at it towards the end of class.

She had to do a lot of thinking last night and it totally wore her out. She slept all the way home and didn't get out of bed until 10:30 this morning, lol. Lazy bum haha

Sorry for the bad quality. Not sure why this one is bad and the other one isn't. This was one of our very first runs of the night.

Some background on this one. She was supposed to start at the broad jump and end at the last jump in the pinwheel. That was it. But little miss overachiever decided she wanted to do ALL THE THINGS and finish the course out

She's such a nut!

Harleigh looks awesome!

Bittersweet stuff going on here... I switched classes. I loved my old class but this time is better and it's a more competitive class. So it's a better fit by far. Summer held her own tonight and then some with all the young herding breeds. Everyone is trialing in this class so that's good. Our weaves are not where the others' are but other than that, she was actually probably the best with the handling stuff. She did great today and was fast despite it being hot. It's also a better time for me to get there after work without rushing and also it's later in the evening so a touch cooler...

But now I have to tell my friends from the other class that I am moving to a new class. Sucks. I really liked my old small dog class. I do like and know all the people in my new class though. I've had class with all but one before and have talked to the other girl at trials.

And this weekend we are doing a TDAA ring rental with my old class. :/ So I guess I will have to tell them then.

Well Squash has officially started his agility career. This was the first night, and mostly we just had various pieces of really basic equipment laying around and took turns introducing our dogs to investigating and getting on stuff... Like, planks from the dog walk and teeter just on the floor, some pool noodle and PVC cavalettis, a gentle wobble board, a few low perches, a short tunnel, a box to play shaping with, stuff like that. Squash gave no effs about anything, as usual. Also discussed shaping and general good habits to get into (like working your dog from both sides of your body).

The only thing I wasn't thrilled about is that there are a lot of dogs in the class and it was a little chaotic and hard to stay out of each other's way all the time. Squash got a little grumpy and laid a verbal smackdown on an overly enthusiastically greeting adolescent Golden (oh, the irony dripping off THAT encounter) and we had to just stand off to the side working on focus for awhile, but all in all I think it will be fun.

Harleigh's looking really nice!

Is there a reason you don't try to create more drive and speed out of her at this point? She looks like she has great awareness and is cueing off your body and verbals really well - And I know she has the speed "in" her!

Thanks By more drive and speed what do you mean exactly? Just curious, as I don't do anything special to get her raring to go - we literally just walk in there and do it and then celebrate haha.

She does cue off my body/verbals pretty well, but we still have a lot to improve on.

She really has trouble deciding which obstacle I'm wanting her to go with (my fault mostly for not telling her soon enough and/or turning my body). But once we SHOW her, she anticipates it and collects herself to do the obstacle she is supposed to do. One other thing we need to improve is the teeter. She's still way too cautious with it, though we have improved leaps and bounds. One reason that causes her to bail on it is if she is going too fast and is unable to collect herself before getting on the teeter.

But honestly, I do think I take for granted that I don't have to create any drive/speed in her and she just does it because she loves to... though I'm sure she could do better or go faster with another handler

Sounds to me like she's just not 100% confident yet. I forget how long you guys have been doing it, but I know you had a break in there too. Your handling will get there, and she will learn to trust your handling cues. Don't worry, speed is a byproduct of confidence!
