Default Health problem

I just noticed a hard mass under my 11 year old German sheperd's front leg, about where our arm pit would be, it is about the size of a baseball and very hard, it does not seem to bother her, she is walking okay. I called my regular vet today but he is out for the next 5 days. I need to know if I should wait or take her to another vet, if she was in pain I would take her right away, I also do not want to wait if is it is something that needs to be taken care of ASAP. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and may know what it is? I like our vet and would rather him see her than take her to a new place that does not know her, but I do not want to wait if it could cause damage. I am watching it and if it get bigger or if someone knows that it could be serious I will take her somewhere else. Thanks, Tony

My dog developed a hard mass under his neck, in the throat area. It developed rather rapidly and changed almost daily after it reached a very big size. This mass was cancer. I was surprised as it was very solid. However from diagnosis to death (pts) was a matter of 4 months maybe?! You should have it checked. Even tho in my dogs case, they said by the time it was noticable it was already too late as it was a rapid spreading cancer....which most solid lump cancers are (is what they said) Good luck. There are treatments, our dog was already 15, so we let him rest

That is my concern Mach1girl, I know she is getting old for her breed, the vet says 9 or 10 years is average but our animals always go longer. I was hoping we could wait until Friday, I noticed it last night and called my vet this morning but he is out of town until Friday. I would rather wait for him because we like him and he knows our animals. If she was in any pain at all I would go to another vet, I am hoping that it does not get bigger and I can wait for my vet to return. I have had dogs and train dogs for most of my life but I never seen this and was hoping someone here would know if it was serious enough to look at right away or will it be okay to wait for 5 days. I just do not want it to rupture or be something that needs to be looked at right away or something happens because I waited. It is there, she is not in pain and walking fine, when I feel it she does not wimper. Just concerned and in a bind wondering about waiting for the vet to return. Thank for the info.

If it is not oozing, causing pain, or growing rapidly, then I myself if I were in your situation would wait if I had to a few days for the vet to return. Not saying you should,, but if its non emergency...
