Red face I almost got a ticket today!

Reminds me of the "are you a good driver thread."

Okay....so mind you...I'm in western Washington where the drivers are notoriously (even according to them) moronic drivers and multiply 'moronic' 1000 times if there's snow.

I'm driving up this steep hill to return home after a walk with my son and the dogs. The speed limit is 35 and the hill has compact snow and ice on it in several places. So, instead of going just 35, I feel a justified need to turn it up a notch to make sure I have sufficient momentum. (even if I do have 4WD and can actually stop on the hill and then get going again anyhow) It's simply the "way" you drive in the snow and ice...a safe guard, to be assured of assisting your car up a hill. So, I was going only 5 - 7 miles over the limit...40 - 42. And here come these flashing lights on an SUV roaring up the hill after me. So, after I finish getting up the hill and am leveling off, I am now going slowly to find a safe place to pull over, my signal on.

When the cop starts walking toward my car, I poke my head part way out the window with a smile and a friendly, albeit ditzy, "hi!" He told me, as if he knew all about snow (which it hardly does in western Wa) if there were ANY time one should drive the speed limit, it's in the snow. I said incredulously, "Oh...you mean that steep hill back there??? Well, that has compact snow and ice and I felt a need for some momentum in order to avoid any problems getting up the hill. Otherwise, I drive very gradually and go the speed limit or less and I stay w-a-a-a-ay back from other car's bumpers." (a concept that completely escapes Washington drivers regardless of the road conditions) Then I was sure to include emphatically, "I'm VERY use to driving in the snow, coming from north Idaho where there's snow and ice 7 months out of the year. Then he said, "I'll give you a warning. I can tell you know what you're doing." Well played, huh. hahaha...

Have you gotten out of a ticket lately? lol.

I've only been pulled over twice, both times for a burnt out headlight. Both times, the headlight had burnt out THAT NIGHT as I was heading home.

I was ticketed once (the first time), and the officer told me that if I presented a receipt for the bulb replacement dated within 24 hours I could have the ticket waived. That turned out to be a crock of BS that resulted in the courthouse doubling my ticket fee.

The second time was only a warning, although I was driving my husband's car and his glovebox is organized... differently... (read: not organized at all), and it took me what felt like for-freakin-ever to find the registration.

So glad you didn't get a ticket

I haven't gotten a ticket since last year, which I have to pay off by March. I hate LAPD cops, they are so bad. They pulled Justin over one time around midnight because the tint on our suv was too dark, but really they pulled him over because they wanted to check him out. A white guy from the suburbs on his way to 7/11 to get his prego wife a snickers and a slushi, ya real dangerous!

I got pulled over last summer because the cop thought I was talking on a cell phone. I, however, was leaning my head on my hand and singing in traffic. I believed me once I acted out what I was doing.

I always thought it would be funny to hold something against my head, like a hair brush or a block or wood and sing or talk to myself and if a cop pulled me over, ask him if that's illegal too. I wonder when it will be illegal to sing in the car or speak to the passenger next to us.

Yeah, too darkly tinted windows means they don't get to see into the car and see everything we're doing. Uggg. Yeah, real danger there, your husband.

How funny! The cops around here talk on their cell phones while driving. The no cell phone rule should apply to them too.

This reminds me, I went to court with a friend and one of the DA's was on her Facebook on her phone the entire time! Even while the judge was talking she was scrolling through her fb page. I was sitting right behind her

I have had more dealings with the police and troopers in the last three months then I have in the last three years. Twice for having a headlight out, different headlights. A fix it ticket for not having proof of insurance, this was from one of the headlight out incidents. Once on the side of the road after over heating with -20 outside temperature.

And tonight for not having mud flaps, or as AK law describes them as anti spray devices if more then 14"s of tire hight is exposed. I have had my jeep lifted for 6 years now and this is the first time I have even heard about Alaska having a hight requirement for mud flaps. There are stock trucks that have more then 14" tire hight exposed that come factory without mud flaps.

Gee wiz Blue! Crazy stuff. Sounds like those cops don't have enough to do.

Incredible Kristen....scary stuff. i wouldn't want to have my life in the hands of that lawyer. She sure wasn't paying attention. Maybe she was just there to watch, not represent someone. (I would hope)

Yeah, cops don't have to go by the laws like the rest of us do. Not only can they talk on cell phones, but they can speed. I see them speed all the time and they don't have their emergency lights flashing or anything.
