Native American Indian Dog?

Curious if anyone has experience with this breed? (if it is indeed a breed..?) I have never met one, nor even heard anyone talk about them. But, I am quite interested in this dog which they claim to be a native american indian dog. Id love to hear any information/experience you all have with the breed.

They live forever, like 17-20 years, ime. Other than longevity they don't seem to have a breed type or standard. I have met a few, years ago in Oregon, and they were very nice dogs but again, I'm not sure there is any breed type being bred for.

The founder of that breed is not anyone I'd ever suggest buying a dog from. She's not honest about her dogs, not honest to puppy buyers and not honest to other breeders. She's a commercial "designer dog" breeder - she not only has these "Native American Indian Dogs" (which, with a bit of research you find out were created using wolf hybrids and are not as the breeder claims they are behavior wise) but she has "designer mixes" using NAIDs and other breeds. She has NAID x Sibes, NAID x Canaan Dog and what started my discussion with her, NAID x Belgian. I emailed back and forth with her for several weeks, posing as a potential buyer to figure out who she got the Belgian from. And turns out, she bought the dog as a non-breeding dog, on a limited registration/non-breeding agreement from a breeder who had no idea she commercially bred "designer dogs". She told me that if the dog's breeder knew she was using the dog for breeding "designer dogs" she'd probably have a fit - pretty much readily admitted that she was not honest when she bought the dog. Then she was pretty clear that she really didn't like the dog saying she thought that NAID x Belgian mixes would be beautiful and would be "a huge improvement on the stupid, barking Belgian". From what I can gather from her website, she is has a lot of dogs and while she has a nice kennel set up for them, they are all kennel dogs. NAIDs and the mixes of them are very obviously bred just for looks. Supposedly, all breeders of them have to be approved or something by the founder. I known when I talked to her, she often sold already altered puppies.

And FWIW I don't think the dog on petfinder looks like a NAID. But who knows, since they are all different sizes and looks and other breeds are still being added to them.

Thank you Aleron! Really interesting post. When I did a bit of research on them, I figured they were a "designer" breed, since she just looked like a mix to me. I have no interest in purchasing one from a breeder especially THAT breeder I thought the dog just looked like a GSD/Husky mix. Do you see any wolf in her?

EDIT: I am so DISGUSTED by what I've read about these NAID breeders. Ive been looking at their websites, and reading horrific stories about people who purchased dogs from her. From what I read, their personalities are basically that of a wolfdog. Destructive, sensitive to their surroundings, practically impossible to train..

Honestly, the dog on Petfinder just looks like a GSD/Sibe to me. Who knows. Maybe she is supposedly one. Or it could be a case of someone getting or finding a mixed breed puppy, seeing a dog that was supposedly a NAID and saying "Oh that must be what our dog is because she looks just like one!". Just because the owners said she was a NAID doesn't mean they bought her as such. Or maybe she's a "Sibercaan" from this breeder, which is why she doesn't look so much like the NAIDs.

Yeah it doesn't take much looking to find story after story of people who purchased NAIDs and the dogs were not behaviorally anything like what they expected or were led to believe they would be. I came across a rather horrific story about what happened with her original breeding stock, which were hybrids but I will not repeat it here, as I don't know if it's true or not.

In talking to her though, I can say I was rather shocked at how readily she admitted to me, a total stranger that she got the Belgian by being dishonest with the dog's breeder. And now that dog is listed on her for sale...oh I'm sorry "Adoption" page for $2000 intact or $850 spayed. The dog is listed as a Native American Shepherd and listing her "registered name" as Majestic View's Black Velvet Rain. First, it's dishonest to say she's a NAS because she's a purebred, registered Belgian Sheepdog. The first thing I thought of when I looked at her pictures is she is a GSD/Sibe mix. Unfortunately, some shelters and rescues slap designer or rare breeds on dogs just to get them adopted. And, honestly, chances are better that she's a GSD/Sibe mix than something more uncommon.
