In all honesty, I would just bring the dog home. Even if it was temporary. Dogs like the Dogo could so easily end up in the wrong hands and even if your wife would not allow you to keep her, at least you would beable to find the right home for her.

I brought home a dog for training, it's been almost 2 years now You could always try that route.

1. Dress the dog up in a pink bonnet and a dress, and tell her you adopted a baby as a surprise. When you take the clothes off and reveal it is a dog, it will seem like an upgrade.

2. Cut out black circles from cardboard and tape them to his ankles. Put him in the garage and claim you got one of those super fuel efficient SmartCars.

3. Paint all your walls white before you bring him home and teach the dog to stand still against the wall and close his eyes on the cue "What do you mean, where did that dog come from?".

4. Put red paint on the dog. Hide him and yourself behind a tree. When she is backing out of the driveway, thump the back of her car with something and chase the dog out from behind the tree. Clearly the only way she can repay the poor dog she injured is to give him a loving home forever!

well she was talking about having me finish the rest of the basement (built in bookcases, kitchenette & another bathroom on top of framing & drywall). i started thinking intently. she asked what i was thinking about. i told her i was trying to figure out how many dogs & how much nookie i could get out of this project. she said i would get plenty of nookie

her main concerns are having to take care of them in my absence (illness rarely stops me from taking care of the dogs) which is a real possibility due to military obligations. she has expressed concern over being able to control Olive. to which i always point out that she avoids interacting with her which is why she doesn't listen to her. i also encourage her to join me in walk, play & training. she has just not been a hands on dog person since we lost Jack 5 years ago.

ETA i'm still checking out the dogo trying to decide if i even want to take on this fight. i just feel like i need to prep the battleground in case i decide i want him.

To be completely fair, if you're going away here and there and she already has her hands full it may be best to hold off and assist in finding an alternative home for the dog.

I know I can only handle so much before I lose my mind and it's unfair to the dogs to have a mindless owner. lol

She has as strong case there, I must say. However, if that is her main concern, I do think the idea of a temporary foster situation to start would work. Give her time to see if she can handle it, bonds to him, etc.
