Default Repost

Because my thread got eaten, I was waiting for it to turn back up, but it hasn't, so I'll repost. Jess had a great answer to this and I really would like to thank her for the answer!

A friend of mine and I are talking about opening an all breed rescue in the future (part of our ten year plan) probably here in Colorado, because I love it here LOL.

Anyway, when it comes to rescues, what keeps you coming back, what makes you say "OMG not even going to bother with these people" and what makes you just turn around and walk away when you see something going on within the rescue? What are your likes / dislikes about your favorite rescue?

Thanks in advance!

what keeps you coming back
Courteous, professional behaviour. When you can really tell they are there to help the animals, no matter what the case may be. Rescues that don't make blanket statements, be it about the type of people they will adopt out to, or the type of home the breed goes to. When the rescue has volunteers that you feel like you want to have a relationship with, the friendly feeling that makes you want to come back.

what makes you say "OMG not even going to bother with these people"
Blanket statements, not willing to work with potential volunteers/adopters, rescuers who blame all breeders for the amount of dogs in rescue. Rescues who claim to be in major need of resources, yet are picky and turn people off rescue.

what makes you just turn around and walk away when you see something going on within the rescue?
When volunteers within the rescue "air their dirty laundry" with another volunteer publicly. Nothing annoys me more than when rescues let personal issues get in the way of helping the animals.
