Unhappy New Aggression b/t dogs

Help! My 2 dogs have recently become aggressive towards one another over food and bones. I have a 3 year old mixed breed that was adopted as a puppy, and a 1 year old stafforshire terrier mix that was adopted at around 4 months old. They have never fought before, but I have had to break up a couple NASTY fights over bones lately, and thave thus stopped giving bones. My 1 year old Rosie DESPERATELY needs to chew, and has become destructive with her chewing otherwise. THey are unsupervised in our backyard all day while at work, so I am now nervous to leave them alone with anything. ANY ADVICE????

thanks serena....I wish I could leave them inside when I am away. They are too destructive and I do not have crates. I agree that there are too many evil minds out there hurting innocent pets.

My dogs are going through the same thing with food. Beulah is getting at that age where she thinks its time for her to be the dominant female in the house. Dixie is not quite ready to give up that position yet. I hate to say it, but they will fight until they establish dominance in the house. I know it sucks. I've had to break up two fights so far. One ending up at the vet. I also know that it could have been a lot worse. Beulah outweighs Dixie by 30 pounds. She could have done some serious damage, but I really don't think she wanted to hurt Dixie, I think she just wanted to scare her. Which, it did work for a couple of days, but Dixie's not scared anymore. Just keep a close watch on your dogs when they are together. If one starts to growl at the other, scold her and put her in a "time out" of some sorts. I know I can't give you that much advice on this situation. I am still trying to figure out the same thing at home. Good Luck.
