American Allaunt
We ran into a gorgeous dog today at the dog park. Taking Luna and Sheena swimming and to play with other dogs is now a daily occurance. Anyway after swimming, while we were walking around the park we met with an owner and a gorgeous, very large brindle dog. At first I thought it was a mix. But when we asked the gentleman this lovely boy was with he told us it was an American Allaunt. I had never heard of this breed. Luna fell in love with this sweet boy right away. And he was smitten with her. They bounded and played like crazy. Sheena ran with them but has never been one to wrestle and play much. He was only 16 months old but he was so huge and sweet natured. Leaning hard agianst who ever was petting him.
Just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this breed?

I don't get it.... Nice dog, but they look a lot like any other mollaser/bulldog breed to me.

From what I found they are a mix. Might have been a breed a long time ago that went extinct...now they are mixing breeds to try and recreate it. But I can't find any really solid info. I've never heard of or seen them before, and they're not on dogbreedinfo
 (made up breed central).

American Allaunts
The link above shows a picture of what they say is an American Allaunt. Out of all the pictures I have seen this on is very close to what the dog we saw was in color and shape. It was just slimmer since it was still a young dog. Mutt or not (Luna is our much loved mutt lol) he had a very sweet temperment and was a very handsome boy. Not a breed I would ever own but definately a sweet dog.

I wasn't bashing mutts, but they can't have a specific temperament. They can be completely like one of the breeds they are made of, completely like the other, or anywhere in between.
I do wonder what they are mixed with though, couldn't find a definite answer on that.

There really in not much info on them when I googled them. It was just all the same ol' stuff on every website.

Maxy I never thought anyone was bashing them. So no worries. I was just meaning that even if they are a mutt, like Luna is and many of the gorgeous dogs here, that he was gorgeous and sweet. Thats all.

It looks like the same crap pulled by the "american mastiff" breeders. I bet I can get a half dozen purebred Washington Elephant Seal Terriers (you know, for going to ground after elephant seals), I bet I can even found the breed and make a website. I bet I can even post a few pedigrees for show too and I'll still have more information than American Allaunts have on their "breed club" website.

although some people that bought into them are working them in PP sport, Donald (the breed originator) seems to be another Swinford. he apparantly isn't revealing the breed foundation because he doesn't want a bandog repeat.
