Steve and I ran in a big (90 teams from 36 clubs) flyball tournament this weekend (Coconut Classic- "the flyball party of the year"). He didn't run so hot, to be honest. He was slow. I took him to the rehab/massage lady this morning and he had a very VERY sore right triceps muscle so she worked on it for ages until she got him unknotted, then lasered him. That helped some (he ran a 3.995 in the next race), but mostly he was running 4.1s, which is slow for him.
But anyway. During the awards ceremony, they named a king and queen of the tournament and they also named a Dream Team. These were six dogs selected from all the dogs running in the tournament. I believe they could be nominated by anybody, but were selected by the host team. I was absolutely floored and flabbergasted, not to mention tremendously touched, when Steve's name was called. His breeder bounced over to me to tell me that she'd nominated him. It doesn't surprise me that she did- she is really proud of him and she gets a total kick out of him. He's a GOOD flyball dog, as fast as her dogs. And she gets to see the super-sweet ooey-gooey side of him whenever she sees him because he luuuuuurves her. It means a lot to me. That his breeder would recognize him. That the person in charge of the tournament would choose him. Steve's grandfather is out of her heart dog Sprint who died a couple years ago. I assume she knows who he is, knows that connection. Maybe not. It weirds me out a little bit how Known Steve sometimes is at these tournaments. Someone walked up and said "Hi Steve" yesterday and I had no idea who she was (I do now- she has an uncle to him and a cousin). Anyway, Dream Team Steve. The other dogs were a Black Lab, a Dalmatian, a Pit Bull, a Borderjack, and another height dog that I can't remember (bad me!) along with a Shar Pei who was awarded the honor posthumously. My dog is amazing and I am so lucky to have him.

Steve really is awesome. I'm glad he's doing so well for you and extra glad he's not currently on crate rest so he CAN be on the dream team.

El, were any teams from the south there? I have a friend who runs Flyball and was at an event this weekend, wondering if they might have been there? Would be a small world!
Congratulations, again!

the furthest south i'm aware of is north carolina (fur fun) but there were so many teams there that i'd not heard of. spring loaded was there from michigan. they're the current nafa record holders (15.217). very very interesting to watch their fast team run.
