Default Please Help! [Shooting in RAW]

Hello guys!

I took some photos of my dogs today with my Nikon D7000 in RAW for the first time in this specific camera. It is relatively a new camera for me, so I have a lot to lear in it.

From the day I got it, I always shot in JPEG with it, but today, I decided to move to RAW. I shot a bunch of cute photos of my dogs. I would loooove to keep. Happily, I tried to transfer my photos to my computer. I use a MAC computer; iPhoto is what I use when transferring. Never had a problem. But, for my surprise, my iPhoto could not read the RAW photos' files (.NEF). I opened my Photoshop program, in hope that it will be able to read them, but no luck in that too. My computer can't read the file. i do want these photos . Is there a way? can I convert the files? if so, how? and is it possible for the quality of the photos not to change after converting? Any suggestion?

Please help!

Thanks

Update: I got the answer. I thought of sharing it here, just in case, someone else was in my place one day and was seeking for help/answer.

So what you have to do is download and install Nikon View NX2 from Nikon to convert the file to .JPG . It is a great software.

Here is one of the photos that I just converted. Shot originally in RAW but converted to JPG - I cropped it.

Also you can get the update for iphoto that enables it to read the .NEF files of the D7000. Same with photoshop, you need to download the specific software update for it to work.

Edit: Just curious, what were you shooting with before?

Thanks so much for the info on iPhoto update. I wasn't aware of this. Gotta search for the update.

I had my D7000 for the last 4 months or so. I always shot in .JPG (never RAW in this camera). It is a great camera. LOTS of things that I am still discovering/learning in it.

Before getting the D7000, I used to shoot with the D80
