I have one question..
If you are so concerned about your dogs / rescue dogs / foster dogs... WHY IN THE WORLD are you looking for them on a forum full of god knows what kind of people? (no offence chaz people )Shouldnt you be looking for people that you can actually screen and get to know on a PERSONAL level?

Your chihuahuas (one in particular) look a bit like MY chihuahua. My pet store chihuahua bred by puppy millers with regard for money and nothing else.
There are chihuahua rescues that have dozens of dogs in their system at a time, some that stay there for a ridiculous amount of time. Chihuahuas are overbred and yes, there are too many of them. If there weren't too many of them you would not have to rescue chis in the first place. You have the AKC standard on your page, but you don't breed to any standard (your dogs don't look to have much of regularity in their appearance). Why bother? Quote:

I have a chihuahua. I got him from a RESPONSIBLE breeder, who does health tests and raises her own puppies and breeds her dogs to STANDARD
not to mention agrees to take ANY DOG back at ANY AGE if you can't keep him/her because thats what a responsible breeder does to make SURE they aren't adding to the OVERWHELMING overpopulation problem CHIHUAHUAS ARE VERY POPULAR AND THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY "PET DOGS" BEING BRED AS IT IS. MY DOG IS certainly not fragile or breakable just because he is small and within standard, with quality breeding you don't have to sacrifice the small size for anything else. and I'm sorry but there is NO EXCUSE for breeding huge chis. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE, I live in a CITY and the shelter is PACKED FULL of big BYB chihuahuas. My 4 pound chihuahua is healthy, sturdy, active and has a great temperament ![]() His breeder breeds show dogs, but that doesn't mean she doesn't produce EXCELLENT pets. Breeders who breed to IMPROVE THE BREED are the only ones who should be breeding. Breeders breeding just for "supply and demand" are in it for the wrong reasons. If you are going to keep doing what you are doing against all advice.. ATLEAST RAISE YOUR OWN PUPPIES. This brings easy money making to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL... You can't even be bothered to raise the lives YOU HAVE CREATED? |

You've only just joined this forum. Obviously you don't know any of us, none of us know you. If you were only in search of local volunteers to foster rescue dogs, why did you come to Chazhound? It seems like an unlikely place to gain support, especially considering your breeding practices, which really aren't up to par for those of us who frequent this forum. Allow me to pat you on the back for doing rescue work. I don't mean for that to sound condescending - I truly am pleased when I see breeders actively involved in breed rescue. That said, the dogs you're breeding are not so different from the dogs you're rescuing if you breed them with no care at all to the standard. What makes a Chihuahua a Chihuahua without a standard to breed to? They are not a working breed. Pardon me if this sounds rude but there is no "point" to the Chihuahua without the breed standard for appearance and demeanor. Well bred chihuahuas are the way they are because they're healthy, of sound temperament, and true to the aesthetic standard. When you have to make modifications to the standard to make your breed suit you, maybe you should've just found a different breed.

Not only are your puppies WAY out of standard but you cannot spell. It is arrivals my man, not arrivels.

I am about an hour away from the OP, and unlike him, I actually do rescue work. I can verify that there are plenty of Chi's desperately needing homes in the area. There are 172 Chihuahuas within a few miles of him - and that's JUST the ones on petfinder! Some of those dogs look more like chis than his do. ![]() We got a pair of beautiful dogs at the rescue I volunteer at a few months ago that I think any Chihuahua fancier would agree adhere to the breed standard better than this dog featured on his site: ![]() Chihuahua in rescue: ![]() The dog at our rescue is gorgeous, fits the standard better than the dogs he is breeding, and was ridiculously friendly and social. You know there's something wrong with the world when a dog like that is in rescue and there is a breeder bragging about breeding dogs that can't hold a candle to it. Quote:

Wow, nolu. That LC chi is beautiful. I think I officially love that beautiful dog.
When to stop breeding: when the dogs you're producing barely pass as purebreds and the dogs you're rescuing can pass for a pet quality dog produced by a show breeder.

Nolu, that chi is gorgeous. That mane is awesome.
Around here, there are a LOT of chis in shelters. Most look like the ones from that "breeders" website. There are few that are to breed standard. Chihuahuas have such a varied look to them. It's so important to continue to breed to the breed standard. I bought Emma to be shown and she's a lovely chi, but she ended up too small so I responsibly spayed her. Any responsible breeder will NOT let their chis end up in the hands of BYBs. They will only let their puppies go to breeders who will continue to health test/breed responsibly. It makes me incredibly sad to see my beloved breed ruined. If you truly LOVED chihuahuas, you would make sure that you were health testing, breeding to standard, and proving your dogs in some way. Not just throwing together A and B and selling the "cute little puppies."
