Greasy ear fur

I understand that my water dog is meant to have an oily coat; it's manageable with a monthly bath. His ear fur, however, is almost always oily. Short of washing his ear region every few days, is it possible to keep the greasy at bay somehow?

Lacey has long ear hair and it gets a littly oily too... I use unscented baby power, just a tiny bit and I brush it out with a flea comb.
