Default Why was your dog bred?

If you know at least. Pet, conformation showing, guide dog, agility, etc.

Bruno's litter had been bred for snake food.
Simba was bred by our family friend as she wanted a litter out of Jasmine (His mom) before she got too old; pet.

Greed....yeah, that's about it.

ETA: Poor Bruno, just read that. How sad, glad he's got a great home.

Liz was bred to be a show dog, she was then literally bred to produce a more superior show dog (that dog was Eerie, and while Liz is beautiful IMO, Eer is ten times the dog conformationally).

Rage was the result of hours and hours of looking at pedigrees and coming back to the same conclusion in an effort to create a solid hunting dog. She follows the idea of "form follows function" PERFECTLY - I bought her as a performance dog from a breeder whose MAIN CONCERN is performance - coming from a long line of sound, long-lived hunting dogs, she just happens to have great angulation and structure, got great feet from luck of the draw, and turned out to be competitive at the national show level.

Daisy is the result of a backyard breeder, and was given to my boyfriend for his 16th birthday as a hunting dog prospect. She failed miserably at that, theoretically never should have been bred, but is the most precious and priceless thing in the world to me <3

Bear was bred to be a show dog, by a great breeder who pays a ton of attention to correct movement and angulation (rather than just breeding for a superior bench dog, which a lot of people do...), and he is one of my favorite dogs to hunt.

Swagger is the result of one woman's breeding of a male she put a lot of time and effort into titling in the bench, the field, and passing hunt tests with him - he's a result of his first breeding and so far we are quite pleased.

And Autumn... I'm not entirely sure what the guy thought he was accomplishing with this cross, honestly. But I just found her at a dog show with a sign that said "$20 or best offer" and couldn't leave her. She's worth her weight in gold.

The Plotts:
UKC GRCH 'PR' Hannas Creek Liz
GRCH FCH CCH CA 'PR' Jebb's Bayou Rage
OFA Hips: Good, Eyes: Normal
2010 & 2015 UKC Coonhound World Show Qualified

Midnight Brindle Bombshell - "Pink"
UKC GRCH CCH 'PR' Skyplott Teddy Bearhug (5/2004 - 3/2014)

And the "off-colored" hounds:
'PR' Dead River K-N-A Swagger (English coonhound)
Daisy Duke Garrett CGC, RA & my <3 dog. Forever "The Favorite", 5/25/2000 - 2/9/2015 (basset)

Dekka was bred to be a dog sport/companion. Same as Kat and Solo (though also with intention to have the ability to be working dogs) Bounce and Dash were bred to be show/pets and to contribute to the LHW gene pool.

Quinn was an accident. The litter before hers was meant to be the last one for the pairing but one silent heat while someone else was looking after the dogs later little Quinlay came along. Pups intended as pets or handy farm dogs.

Buster was probably just the result of stray camp dogs making babies. At some point someone put a collar on him as a puppy before they left him in the middle of town drowning in ticks and fleas and waiting to be hit by a car. He certainly fell on his feet the day they decided to ditch him.

Mine are all pet/show primarily. Mia's lines have some really rocking sports dogs in them too (even a couple MACHs) but I think that is more of an offshoot than the goal. The other 4's lines have a lot of therapy dogs and some lower level rally/agility/obed titles but again I think that was an offshoot of breeding for good temperament, not the main purpose.

Hank CA - (approx. 1 1/2 year old Spotty Dog)
Mia CGC - (6 1/2 year old Papillon)
Summer TG3 TIAD - (11 year old Papillon)

Money, pets, and show in that order for 4 of them. One was bred to be a pet, and a turdburgler.

Like Laur, all of my chis were bred to be shown/pets. Chloe's relatives have a few agility titles, but other than that, the rest of their families just have conformation titles.

Rory's litter were bred for working/sports homes.

L to R: Chloe, Rylie, Emma, Tucker, and Rory

Zoey was bred for money, money, money. *shakes head* We didn't know better and bought her from a puppy mill, more or less.

As for Psyche, I don't know for SURE, but I assume it was an accident.
