Valentino's blue eye pupil dilates in dim light and constrict in bright light like a cat pupils would. His brown eye pupil would always be dilated however.

The darker eye is probably dilating and constricting too, but since the eye colour is so dark you often don't notice it as much as the light coloured eye.
Also i read somewhere, and i don't know if it's true or not, that lighter coloured eyes are more sensitive to light and will constrict more than darker coloured eyes. Again dunno if that's true or not, i just read it somewhere.

I'm pretty sure all dog's eyes do that, it's just much more noticeable with a light colored eye. I don't know if what Mandy said is true, but it is possible.

All dogs eyes do. When Smudge had eye issues we worried as they stayed dialated for weeks do to the vet screwing up with meds.

This^ Look very closely. Both eyes should dilate and constrict together and equally. If they don't there may be a brain injury. I suspect it's because of the dark colored eye that you don't see it as well but I bet they're working together.

All eyes constrict and dilate...that's what a pupil and an iris are for. Cat, dog, human, horse, goat you name it. It can be more noticeable in light eyes, which is why it is so noticeable in cat eyes - they're usually light colored. Also, sometimes meds (atropine) are intentionally given to dilate the eye and keep it dilated to assist in healing or to prevent further damage. It doesn't necessarily mean someone screwed up.

I don't know about dogs, but I have what's called a blonde eye, and that means I have very very little pigment on the back on my eye, or wherever, which means bright lights really mess me up. I was a very blonde child, and I'm still a pale person, I just don't have a lot of pigment anywhere really, including my eyes.
I have the glasses that darken in bright light to help with it, and they really do. It sucks in bright sunlight without my glass, and can give me a headache really quickly. |
