Parrot owners?

Are any of you chazzers parrot owners? If so, I would love to hear stories/see pics about and of your feathered friends. We have decided to add a parrot to the family and I am leaning towards either a red lored amazon, a blue fronted amazon, or a male solomon island eclectus.

I really want to get a cage set up and all of the necessary supplies and what not before I go putting a deposit on a baby, and I am still not 100% on what kind we want yet.

So parrot owners... tell me about your birdies?

I have an African Grey named Caesar. I've had him for a few years now and before him I had another African Grey and a Quaker. Parrots are great, but they're like toddlers that never grow up lol. I'll find some pictures to post.

This is Calypso, my Sun Conure. I got him from a breeder; he was the biggest snot of them all so I picked him. He's kinda of a jerk, but a lovable one. He's the best watch bird ever and will alert before the dogs, and then tattle on them.

He screams like a Blue Jay and it's ear splitting, luckily he likes to click like a dog clicker instead most of the time. Except when he's next to your ear and you have a head ache, then he likes to scream.

I was verrry interested in getting a Timneh African Grey for a while since my family had congos, but I was talking to a breeder of them and she described them as not very good for families. *shrug*

I don't have any experience with Timnehs, mine have both been Congos. I've always been told that they are one person birds but Caesar doesn't seem to have a problem with anyone in my family except my sister in law lol.

I am down to 1 senegal, and one cockatiel. Cleo my senegal is a riot, she is a sassy thing. Likes to tell me NOW, whatz up, how ya doing. She's not too big on the sound effects, that was Tobys job. He would ring like a phone and she would answer him. He also liked to sound like a smoke alarm (thankfully he didn't do that one too often), a doorbell ringing (in which Cleo would say Come in). Which usually got the guest a not so welcoming welcome cause they only did this when the dogs where in. He would also sound like the back up beeping that the big trucks do. A cuddler Cleo is not. I "think" she might be with my husband though. But hes a bit leary of her. Toby was my cuddler of the two. He would sit for hours on my shoulder.

I absolutely love Eclectus parrots.

My last parrot of the many we've had was a Goffins cockatoo. She was a cheeky little lady. She took off ALL the bolts and washers to every door on her cage, and buried them in her food dish. I found them when I dumped it out. She even slid one between the bars on the bottom of her cage so it went down into the tray! Then she took the bolts and threw them behind the curtains, where we found them months later :P

She was just awesome. Since she could just leave her cage as she pleased, she'd often come and sit in the living room with us. She'd hear us all laugh at a tv show, then she would start laughing as well, then she'd climb down, waddle to the couch and climb up to sit on the arm. She loved to dance and, of course, ask the same question repeatedly.
Her name was Tamsin. She was just fantastic.

I'd love to get another bird some day. I've had conures (or rather, my dad had them growing up, and he only kept the loudest of the types), toos, tiels, various budgies, and a few finches and canaries. And a chickadee for a little while, cute little tuft of a bird haha. But my favourite was definitely the Goffins.

Gypsy, I love them! I was told that senegals are good starter birds. This would be my first parrot as an adult. I've been wanting to take the dive for years, but it was just never the right time.

Raven, I LOVE 'toos, and particularly the Black Palm, but they are super expensive and quite large for a first timer. The family had an umbrella cockatoo and that girly was LOUD. That's the reason that I have ruled out macaws and cockatoos and most of the conures.

They are great for those who want a parrot personality but either don't have the room for a bigger one or are unsure of dealing with the larger ones (I know some of the bigger ones can have some issues). But yet don't want a little bird. When I first started looking for a bigger bird aka a parrot. I knew I didn't have the room for a larger one or the energy to deal with the "needyness" of a larger one. I kept going back and forth between the Senegals and Quakers, but I had heard from quite a few that quakers can become very territorial over their cage and very loud for their size. And with having smaller kids at the time I didn't want to chance it.
I miss not having 2 anymore.

I have a Timneh Grey, I've had him since he was about 4 months old..so about 13 years now. He is, and always has been, a naughty bird. (he gets great joy out of biting) But, he never, ever screams and is pretty quiet as parrots go.
