Default So I nearly choked to death tonight...

First let me say, I am not a drama queen. But I seriously thought we were going to have to call 911 tonight. I have NEVER choked like this--seriously couldn't breathe and couldn't talk...couldn't dislodge the offending hamburger--
Well, as you can see, I survived--but I was scared! Any one ever choked like that? It was frightening.

I made myself cough as hard as I could--which was nothing at first! Took awhile for me to be able to talk again, etc--seriously scared the carp out of me!

I am so sorry, I can't think of anything more scary than to have your air cut off.
I think you can use the back of a chair to force the diaphram up but I am not sure enough to suggest it

glad your okay!! Choking is SO scary.
I remember when I was little I used to not chew my food very well and one time I choked on a penne pasta noodle, I turned blue and everything, the ambulance even came.
Then one time I was eating mints while hanging upsidedown, HAHA not smart...

smkie--I was ready to throw myself over the chair--if needed!
Ali--YIKES! This was scarey enough--can't imagine actually turning blue, etc. BEHAVE!

Yup, this is what is recommended if you are alone. Ideally you're around someone who knows first aid!

Choking is scary, my biggest fear is choking alone in my car (because I eat while I drive), and having nothing to "throw myself over", and have to pull over the car safely etc. first which would dramatically reduce how much time I've got!

Glad you're okay Bax!!

Nilly....I guess it doesn't scare you enough to make you stop eating while you're driving

Glad you survived, Bax. I never choked really badly, but one time my grandma choked and my uncle broke 3 of her ribs giving her the heimlich....

Bax . . . .

Two men from Texas were sitting at a bar when a young lady nearby began to choke on a hamburger. She gasped and gagged.

One Texan turned to the other and said, “That little gal is havin‘ a bad time. I’m agonna go over there and help.”

He ran over to the young lady, held both sides of her head in his hands and asked “Kin ya swaller?”

Gasping, she shook her head "no."

He asked, “Kin ya breathe?”

Still gasping, she again shook her head “No."

With that he yanked up her skirt, pulled down her underwear and licked her ass. The young woman was so shocked that she coughed up the bit of hamburger that was stuck and began to breathe on her own. The Texan sat back down with his friend and said, “Ya know, it’s sure amazin' how that hind-lick maneuver always works!”

Glad you're okay

I choked on a hard taco shell when I was a young teen and we lived 25 miles out in the country. Needless to say I'd have died had it not been for my dad, who tried the Heimlich but it didn't work, he opened my mouth and reached down in my throat, took the taco shell out and I was okay.
I remember though, sitting at the table gagging and I could not breath - my mom thought I was throwing up and told me to go in the bathroom!
I did - and my dad must have realized what was going on and followed me in there.
They tell you to not leave the room to go to the bathroom if you are choking because people won't know what's going on!
