Question Jumping 6ft fence

I have a 6ft wood privacy fence. I thought that would be plenty high for my dogs. Boy, was I wrong. Bula can jump over this fence. I don't know how she does it, but she does. How can I keep her from jumping over the fence? It used to take her a while to get over it, but now she's over the top within five minutes...I put her and Dixie out in the yard this morning, locked the gate, then went inside and took a shower. When I got out, Bula was sitting on my back porch. I stopped her from digging out, so now she jumps out. I hate having to tie her up when I leave, but right now, I don't have much choice..

Hmmm.. That's a toughy. You will have to catch her in the act and correct her. Time to play spy dog.

I would strongly suggest never leaving your dog outside unsupervised..no matter where it is..there are so many stories of pits (I think you mentioned thats what your dog was) getting lose...eating something it shouldn't be eating (alot of freaks are throwing rat poison into people's backyards these days)...getting itself hurt.....etc..and you know the bad media thats going around..it only further adds to the negative stereotypes of "lose vicious pits"...when you're there, its perfectly fine..but please...never leave your dog outside unsupervised...too many horror stories, too much of a risk.

Sorry to say, Ti, but they're right about not leaving her outside when you're not there. People can be horrible, and even if Bula never left the backyard, there's always the potential for a neighborhood nutcase to throw something over the fence - like meat laced with antifreeze. We lost our Buffy to some pervert who baited her with antifreeze laced meat, and you'd have thought she'd be safe on 60+ acres, especially since she always stayed close to the house. Charley's a believer now. Times have changed; even in the country you can't leave your dogs outdoors when you're away.

Now - for keeping her in when you're home, you might want to consider that electric fence you were thinking about before, just string it up on top of the fence.
