Default Getting a Cat to Gain Weight....

So we have this cat that we found in our sun room now. The vet tested her for feline leukemia (she was negative), dewormed her and frontlined her (according to the vet the hair loss is due to flea allergy.

We had been feeding her canned food only for the past few days several times a day. She would eat most of it. We bought her some kibble (wellness) and are planning to leave it out for her 24/7 and give canned several times a day. She actually seems to prefer the kibble to the canned at this point. When we fed her around 5:30 pm we gave her a little over 1 cup of kibble and a third of a can of wet food. By 10:30 or so she had eaten very little of the canned food but a little over 1/4 of the cup of kibble. She did not seem interested in fresh canned food later this evening, but I think that maybe she is just full from the kibble.

What is the best way to get a cat to gain weight? We've never really had that issue before....

My cat doesn't like canned food at all. He will only eat kibble. My cat is about 15 lbs. and the bag says 3/4 cup a day. How big is the cat? Could it be the cat is still adjusting to her new home. I think the pet stores sell some liquid to put on kibble to entice them to eat.

It sounds like its eating ok. Maybe just needs some time to put some weight on? How big is the cat? How old?

if you're giving her canned food that will take some time before she reaches an acceptable weight, you can also try giving her cat snacks to motivate her, along with playing time

Try giving her a little KMR (Kitten milk replacement) with her kibble. You can offer is in a bowl by itself or on the kibble to moisten it a bit but it does great for putting weight on cats and helping them recover from illness. Most Walmarts and almost any pet store that carries food carries KMR.
