My Grandma is in China right now but I e-mailed her and asked her if she'd help with the cost for me to go to Illinois to her house.

If we could get you to Illinois, it would be MUCH more doable. Will you be able to get him a health certificate to fly?

Are you just looking for the cost of the flight? I usually just go to travelocity.com and punch in the dates and location.

It's listed on the last page where Fran posted the cost for shipping a dog. It looks like a pretty basic exam, so I would think just the cost of a visit, but I've never had one done.
Also, anyone who knows, does this need to be done to carry the dog on with you or just ship in cargo?

I'm pretty sure it has to be done for any dog going into an airport and onto an airplane. Saeleofu just traveled with Logan, she would know.

It looks like it's just cargo.

"A health certificate is required when shipping your pet as air cargo. While Delta does not require a health certificate for carried-on or checked pets, upon arrival, the certificate may be required by the state. For clarification, please call your veterinarian or see the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Veterinary Services."

If this is something that really materializes, it looks like it would depend on the state if it's required for shipping in the cabin.

My parents fly in and out of the country with their chihuahuas as carry on. When they go they need a recent health certificate from our vet and proof of immunizations for certain diseases.
