Saw this on CL today:

12 yo Welsh Corgi - FREE to RIGHT Home

Marvin is a 12yo Welsh Corgi that was a family pet from birth... With the kids grown and gone and the family downsizing, Marvin is looking for his new and probably final home... Marvin is a beautiful animal... gentle and well behaved... No know health issues... Marvin needs two things... LOVE and a place to run... afterall, he is a Corgi and their job is herding...

Well, I think it is a horrible thing to do for the stated reason.The only good thing I can see is that he is not being dumped in a shelter.

Poor little man, I hope he finds a good home that will cherish him in his final years.

My aunt did that to her cat..once her kids were grown and gone she dumped the older cat at a (thankfully no kill) shelter. She didn't tell anyone she was doing it, or someone would gladly have taken the poor cat in. A family member is trying to adopt the cat now (it's a really weird shelter with about three pages of rules in order to adopt, so they're gathering all of the appropriate info). Ridiculous
