dog training is just consistency. I don't "load" anything. I start right away marking things I want. They learn it that way. I used to load it, but I didn't find it particularly useful so I quit.

I don't treat for stays, i don't use "stay" and my mark ends the behavior. I expect them to come get their treat or chase it if I throw it or nail the decoy if that's the reward. I don't treat to get duration either, I just make them do an exercise longer and longer to get their reward. Works for me.

same here never load it anymore.. just start clicking (my marking tool) right off the bat.

umm thats exactly how I train stays. And you are treating to get duration you are rewarding duration. Though I do have a different cue for stay vs wait, so sit doesn't mean sit stay (doesn't work for what I want.. but it can easily be trained that way) But at the beginning to get the reward for 'sit' the sit has to be maintained longer and longer. At about 30 second duration it gets labled with the stay cue.

yes, I am rewarding for duration, I should have said, I don't reward at the position intermittently to get duration. They just have to hold it longer and longer to get a reward then it's marked and they actively get their reward, I don't bring it to them.
