My parents. They instilled in me the passion to rescue animals, and every animal I have ever owned from birth until now (save a hamster) came from the shelter. Each animal I have brought home has reaffirmed the idea that shelter animals make perfect pets.

Tollers... there was a dog I met a long time ago who I absolutely fell in love with. I was still very young, but just as dog-obsessed at that age as I am now. And then when I got Tango and in turn got to meet more Tollers, that just convinced me even further that I had to have one.

And Dobes, we just fell into them. We were considering a Dobe as our next dog at the time, but weren't decided yet. It was just an idea we tossed around. But then the opportunity came up to adopt an older boy, so we went to meet him, and the rest is history! Thanks to Winston we made a wonderful new friend in my current dogs' breeder, got to know the breed extremely well, and ended up with two more.

Well...

My mom has had keeshonden, so I am in complete love with spitzes. They are stubborn and beautiful and such smart little clowns!!!!!

That's why initially I had chosen a samoyed, but things fell through for me (unfortunately) with samoyeds and (I thought) also getting a dog from a breeder.

We were all set to adopt a puppy from the shelter, but then the BF and I were on a walk with Abby in the dog park and I saw two of the quirkiest looking dogs I had ever seen in my life! They were short legged and had huge ears, but were oddly beautiful to me.

They were fisty and funny and somehow we ran into their owner that same day. It was so funny to watch them herd other dogs!

Turns out that lady was a breeder of Cardigan welsh corgis (that fascinating quirky looking breed) and she hooked me in! I blame her! LOL

She taught me about health testing and structure and why all of that was so important, and she inspired me to really want to do good for this odd little breed of dog.

We hung out and I met more Cardigans and went to some shows and then all of a sudden it seemed that Harper fell into my lap. And now I'm preparing for yet ANOTHER corgi this coming July.

Per the BF, I am cut off after this!!

Anyway... so really serendipity led me to cardigans, but meeting "Grandma" Ruby (who has so many agility titles I can't count them) and daddy "Brynnie" really did it for me.

Ruby as far as dogs go is a force of nature. She's gorgeous and independent and hilarious. Brynnie is completely ball obsessed, and I really wanted a puppy from him (which I got!)

DR.Zhacker the vet that let me bring in all the wild ones when i was a child. His approach to doing the right thing really made a big impact on me and how I deal with things today.

Rosey is the one who got me even liking dogs. I was terrified and hated them when we got her, but she quickly wormed her way into my heart. I honestly think that I will always have a shelter dog.

As for dogs I would like to someday own...
Pugs - I always thought they were neat little dogs, and always thought they would be the only little dog I would like to own one day. MandyPugs' Izzy has really strengthened that, though.

Tollers - I never really knew much about the breed, but after hearing about Dance and seeing pictures, I have been doing more and more research and figuring that I would really love to own one, one day.

Huskies - I knew some awesome huskies as a kid

Whippets - I have always wanted one, thought they were awesome dogs, but Dekka's Bounce really strengthened that want as well (not only seeing pictures and hearing the stories, but having the opportunity to meet her as well )

Bernese Mountain Dog - Really have no reason, I just always loved them as a breed

Well Ruby was our first pug, mum wanted pugs. I wanted Cardigan Welsh Corgis... Guess who won? Lol

Then 4 years later we got Chai because well, you can't just have one pug!

And then I got Izzie because i wanted my own dog and she happened to be in the paper at $850 one day and then down to $450 the next. Pugs aren't my first choice dogs, but because mum forced them upon me i've grown to love them.

I still want a Cardigan (sammgirl's Harper is making that want even more strong!). I saw my first Cardi on Dharma and Greg, then my second when i went to a dog show and met Bluetrix A Little Wicca Majic whom i fell in love with. I recently had the opportunity to get an adult retired champion from a really good breeder, but it just isn't the right time right now for a herding dog even if they're older. I don't have the time to make sure they're worked well.
