Default So we went to the dog park...

It's apparently been open since late December, but I didn't know where it was at. Turns out I'm only 4 minutes away now after moving.

I admit I'm not a fan of the whole "dog park" concept, and I was leery at first after hearing dog park horror stories. But we went anyway.

It's a pretty nice park, it has miles of shared trails, an r/c plane area, and then the dog park (10-13 acres approximately, I think). The dog park area is split up into small dogs and large dogs, and large dogs not allowed in the small dog section, no small dogs in the large dog section. I suppose that's pretty standard, but the cutoff is 25 pound, and there is a big difference between a fat 25 pound doxie and a 175 pound st bernard, yet they all have to play in the same area.

Anyway, we went for a walk around the park first because I was so leery of it, and I didn't want to go in with all the nervous energy. A lot of dogs were off leash around the park and in the parking lot (outside of the dog park area). Eventually we went into the dog park. There were only 3 other dogs there at the time, so I let Gavroche loose (well, I had to encourage him to leave the fence, which apparently smelled sooooooooooo good, and actually go into the park). He got along well with the dogs there, and more dogs came in while we were there. In the end there were about 12 dogs and they were all getting along great. Gavroche enjoyed himself. The only issue, and it wasn't much of one, was when an intact cane corso came in with raised hackles, but after a minute or so he calmed down (he didn't appear aggressive other than the hackles, I think it was more excitement than anything else). They were a rowdy bunch, but they got along well.

There was a huge variety of dogs, some of which are prettty uncommon artound here. When I first when it there was a ridgeback, a golden, and a flatcoat pup. By the time I left, there were those 3, then a cane corso, an australian shepherd, a catahoula, a standard poodle, an obese doxie, and a variety of mutts. Of course averyone assumed both Gavroche and the cane corse were pits Everyone also assumed I had a ton of dogs, because most of them stayed close to me lol.

The bad part was that ALL the poop bag stations were empty. I had some bags in my car, fortunately, but I need to remember to bring more next time.

Sounds like fun!! I'm with you on the leery part though. I haven't been back since Mu (who is about 25 pounds-the park we were at didn't have two sections) almost got eaten by a GSD who was NOT under control. We might try a new dog park now that we've moved.

Great fun! How irritating when the dispensers are empty...You can get a portable little roll of them to attach to your leash or belt loop so they're always w/ you.

I have plenty of bags and plenty of dispensers. I have...well, several thousand poop bags because I but them online in bulk I usually have a soft dispenser attached to the seat belt harness, but it broke and I have to get another one. I usually have a roll in the car too, but I used those (finished them off yesterday). I need to unpack my other many rolls lol

I used to live in an apartment up until a week or so ago, so poop bags were definitely needed. And lots of them. Fortunately my dog was the only one there at the last apartment so I didn't have to pick up other dog's crap as well

I'm always finding single poop bags in my car and coat pocket that I had forgot about. (Without poop in them!)

I'm glad it all went well, it's nice it's so close to you

I've tried a few, didn't care much for them.........and since Orson has developed DA issues it pretty much rules them out for us.

OMG........that had me laughing so hard I could barely breathe! I would think if they HAD poop in them, they wouldn't be so easy to "forget about"

Glad all went well. It was good that you walked your dog outside first and I wish more people did instead of the first timers just coming right in not knowing what to expect from their dog.

Our dog park is never out of bags. They have 4 dispensers at the gate when you walk in on each side of the dog park so eight dispensers altogether. We also have an on leash park across the street that has one dispenser that is sometimes out of bags but I myself is not usually out of the bags because when the dispenser has some and I need some I take a few. This way if it is out of bags I am not.

There are a total of I think 7 or 8 dispensers here. Either no one bothers to refill them very often, or it's just been so busy lately with all the nice weather that they run out so fast.

By the looks of the park, though, they've been out for a while. There was a LOT of poop.
