I wouldn't call these all the 'rarest' breeds. Tibetan Mastiffs and Otterhounds are AKC recognized so they can't be all too too rare here.

That said, I adore Mudik! I would love to at least meet a mudi one day. They sound like a breed I'd love to own.

I've met a Mudi! She was blonde, like the one in the middle. Unfortunately she was people aggressive so I could not pet her.

Off this list, I've also met Tibetan Mastiffs, Otterhounds, and a Chinook.

I know multiple Mudi, house-sat for a great Chinook, and have met a few Stabyhoun. I am inclined to think I've met an otterhound before, but can't remember where, so maybe I'm imagining that one.

I've heard of all but two of these before but I'm also a dog nerd. Neat post.

Heheh . . . "Top ten" & "rare breeds" . . . Oxymoron, much?

I know some mudi's I wouldn't call them rare. I know a Thai breeder, but I agree they are rare. Since when are otterhounds rare though? Uncommon, yes, rare no.

Making claims like these should always include your source, so we know you aren't just pulling these out of the air. (and so we can find out how they determined rare)
