I don't have any words for this at all, except you use government assistance yet have the spare money to splurge on a camera that was over $200?

How about sticking all that extra money into something that will help get you out of the situation you're in?

That's not a personal attack either, I'd tell anyone that did the same thing and brags about it the exact same thing. What a bummer, I know I can't afford a $200 digital camera right now...oh wait, why? Because I have a family to take care of it and don't have support from Uncle Sam. ugh.

same here we only got ours because of our tax return and it was 109. We literally spent weeks trying to talk ourselves out of it but we needed a camera period we had to sell our last one to pay our rent one month.

Tessa :/ how about picking a camera will a few less good reviews and then saving your money to move out? or even a college fund for mason?

I understand you wanting a camera.. but saving is so important. especially for you.

A great valentines or w/e gift for both of you, the best gift in fact, would be INDEPENDENCE. living on your own and raising your family.. instead of on gov.assitance and living with relatives.

I just think your priorities are a bit mixed up, nobody is saying you should not have a camera.. capturing these times with your baby is important. but a $220 camera is unneeded.. with so many more important things

do what you want, you've already ordered the camera. but thats just my 2 cents.

To me that's expensive ..... but then I'm not on gov. assistance . That would buy me 2 months of groceries . But then again , post a lot of pics for us before you have to sell this one too .

We purposely went without buying Birthday gifts and Christmas gifts to save up for a camera. Plus, we had money from baby shower that was set aside for new camera, and we are selling some things, so it is more of a "trade" so to speak. So it is not money being wasted. If it was, I wouldn't allow it. I'm very stingy when it comes to buying even necessary things, let alone unnecessary. So, unless you truly believe it is wrong for people on assistance to buy birthday and christmas presents, there is no reason to make a stink of this. And if you do believe that people on assistance shouldn't get birthday/christmas/holiday gifts, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Third that! I do love dollar general. (Though, you do sometimes have to be careful! Sometimes the things in there can be found cheaper at other places.) And for clothing, goodwill is the way to go! I've never even in my life bought a pair of jeans that cost me more than probably $10. Yay for goodwill!

We were able to make this rare, one time purchase of a nice quality camera because we do spend our money so wisely and go out of our way to find ways to save money. Cloth diapering alone has saved us over 400 dollars already in Mason's young life. That's not including the savings because we use cloth wipes. And then to add in the savings from my diva cup. We cancelled Dustin's cell phone as soon as we could, we don't go out to eat ever (not even Dollar Menu things), and craigslist is our best friend to find necessary things for cheap- or even better, freecycle!.

I've always bought used photo equipment, and never had any issue. If you just buy it from someone legit and test it out when you first get it, you have no issue.

But I guess you must make enough of your own money to have the luxury of brand new things right? A used 12 megapixel digital camera is not good enough for someone willing to take free FOOD for survival, right? Gotta have that new one!

No kidding. No I don't think people on WELFARE should have to go without birthday/xmas gifts. But I do truly believe that if you chose to save that money for something so frivilous (yes, you obviously have a digital camera, it's just not what you WANTED, so it's frivilous) as a new digital camera, then you are spending it unwisely.

Whatever, justify it however you want, whatever helps you sleep at night. Glad to know my tax dollars and everyone else's here are helping you pay for food and such so you can have something that we can't afford because we have to work for a living and support our own families on our own, and pay for our own groceries.
