Default Keeping White Dogs White

So, I just found out I'm getting a white dog (see siggy!). I'm nervous, needless to say! We want to go hiking a lot and I'm wondering how people keep their dogs white. If you know of any good threads, please post.

There was a thread like this on another forum I belong to, and the concencus was a shampoo called Coat Handler. I ordered some from petedge, It dilutes 15 to 1, but my dog isn't white so I can't vouch for that personally. I know there are lots of whitening shampoos out there, I've heard that some do damage to the coat though. There are some groomers on the board, but I wanted to say good luck with the new addition!!

Depending on the breed, once the mud dries, it brushes right off. Then, all you would need is to maybe wipe down the really dirty spots with baby wipes or use some waterless shampoo. We took Caleb hiking two days after he got a bath (and the day after we had torrential downpours). We weren't even out of the parking lot before his entire belly and legs were covered in black mud/grit. When we got back to the truck, I wiped the dried stuff off with a towel. At home, I brushed him with a stiff brush, and used waterless shampoo on his legs and feet.

Depends on coat type. Not sure what is correct coat for a beezer. BUT the JRTs are difficult to get dirty lol. A harsh coat does not hold dirt. (its been a problem when doing a scene that requires a dirty dog)

If your dog has a slightly harsh coat then you won't have any worries. As soon as its dryish it will be clean.

(if you see pics of Dekka and the other JRTs.. we live on a farm and they get bathed about once every couple of months. Now Sport on the other hand, he's the BC, gets dingy after a while but his coat is much softer)

If a shampoo is required to get Mr. Bentley nicely white I would highly suggest Why Itch from B3 Salon Products. It dilutes down to 40 to 1, and though a bit pricey per gallon it is the only thing I will use on my clients. You'll want to concentrate it a bit more for whitening, but I promise you you'll be impressed. Here's the website.

When we have dogs that have stained type fur (from a collar, feet, etc.) we scrub it with a drop of dawn before the shampoo goes on, it works really well.

I would stay away from nylon collars, dunno why ive noticed that when white dogs get wet sometimes the dye from the collar stains their coats

Frequent baths, and using a whitening shampoo.

Gavroche has reddish stains on his paws from chewing on his treats lately. I need to find something that will get the stains out. He also gets really dirty in his favorite "petting spots." Maybe I should make people wash their hands before petting him xD

Cowboy Magic rosewater shampoo whitens really nice, and it has no bleaching products either. It makes darker colors stand out and shine as well.

If the dog's hair has a coarse texture, it may be fine. Max's hair gets dirt on it, but once it dries, it comes right off. His white hair never discolors even with the red dirt.
