Default Opinions on video...

YouTube - Human Vs Animals 64 - Police German Shepherd Attacks Reporter

Personally, I think that dog was showing all sorts of stress signals when the reporter was touching him. Not only that, but the dog was on a short leash, between two large men who were both crowding him. There was no 'escape' for him and the lack of space, in my opinion, was making him nervous.

They also blame the cause on the dog being dominant, and that the reporter leaning over the dog was threatening his dominance. Personally, I just saw a dog that was stressed and scared.

Opinions?

The dog looks stressed to me. His ears, his eyes, his whole body, and his tongue. He's also with a new handler, and the handler apparently can't read the dog very well. The reporter isn't exactly dog-savvy either.

5 stitches, ha! I had much, much more than that when a dog bit my face

I think it's all dramatized to make it more appealing to TV viewers

Dominance?? *sigh*

The dog was stressed and worried. The reporter's movements were threatening -- grab any of my dogs around the throat an lean over him and you'll get bit too (except maybe Morgan who will instead stick her tongue up your nose ~ and Morgan is a dominant dog ).

The officer allowing it in the first place is what gives k9 officers a bad rep as far as their ability to handle/train/understand dogs.

I do agree that it's all overly dramatic. It's also a shame that the dog ended up getting corrected for A. doing what he's supposed to be doing and B. doing something so easily avoidable.

I've seen that video before, I think the dog was SCREAMING signals and the handler should have noticed and removed the dog from such an uncomfortable situation.

The way the reporter behaves is the last way I would introduce myself to a strange dog, let alone a police dog.

Oh and then they praise the officer for his quick reaction...

Yeah.

Yeah, that's not the way I would act around a strange dog. But I guess the reporter learned his lesson, hm? And yeah, it's way over-dramatized.

ggdfdxkjhkk That dog was clearly uncomfortable, it didn't look like the teeth made any real contact and I noticed the guy had no scars so I'd also say it's over-dramatized.

From the start of that video, you can see the dogs eyes bulging just a bit, ears going back........just a VERY stressed look on his face. If this officer is in charge of handling a K-9 partner, you'd think he would be more aware of those signals.

Part of the problem for both the dog AND the officer could have been that camera rolling. I figure the officer was nervous being on tape (most people are unless they do it often) and didn't pick up on the dog's signals, the dog could have felt the nerves coming from his new handler and went on alert towards the reporter. Bad situation all the way around.

That look the GSD in the video had? Ya, that's the look Orson gets when a stranger attempts to touch him BEFORE he has had ample opportunity to check them out. He is fine with us inviting people in, as long as they DO NOT touch him until he sniffs, and scopes his fill...........then it's all good and they are friends, LOL
