Really interesting dog in the shelter

I often look at the local shelter website just to check out whats around atm.
I saw this boy, I don't think he's what they say he is but I've never seen anything like him IRL especially not in a shelter. Here they are all herding dog mixes, "pig dogs" which are generally Daney/Bull Arab-y types or small terriers.

He is just stunning and such a hound, he's just not like anything that I usually see, I can't believe he's homeless. I'd love to meet him.

Whats everyone think?

Boomer is a hunting breed of dog, he is not to be
rehomed with livestock. We are unsure about cats
or chooks at this stage. He socialises well with other
dogs and is still a happy puppy. He will require
secure fencing.

looks like a houla or leopard hound.... judging by the area though i'd go with houla. he's HANDSOME!

I havn't heard anyone mention Houla's in Australia at all, I've never seen any here but I googled and it appears there are a few people that breed them for pigging.

I'm an idiot - I just read where it said Louisiana in his description Altho if you have wild pigs, it wouldn't shock me lol

I know of a Catahoula breeder in Florida that sent several dogs to Australia, so they're there, just out hunting, not as pets ...

I was thinking he looked quiet a bit houla but I didn't imagine we'd end up with one in a shelter. Do you think it would be worth sending an email to the shelter?
I don't know much about Coonhounds but if he acts anything like a houla might (ahem: Voodoo) it might be better to have that in the breed description.

correct breed ID & description help to ensure a good match especially w/ peculiar personality traits like houlas taking a long time to warm up to a new owner. or their no crap taking attitude.
