Default Kenya at her temporary new home.. Explanation & Pictures

I came to miami a while ago, and it didn't take my long to realize that kenya was NOT happy at home here. Its not that my family doesn't take care of her, they do. kenya has the best food, as well as doggy daycare and a dogwalker, plenty of toys and everything money can buy for her.. but she doesn't have a person. Im in college and my mom only takes care of kenya because of me.. and even with all the stuff kenya has, she isn't happy.

When im not here, kenya spends her days sitting around the house or in the backyard, not doing anything. the other dogs DO NOT play with her, my mom doesn't play with her and shes just bored and unhappy.

I understand that its not the end of the world, its not like shes being abused, she does have a "good" life. but for me, thats not good enough for her. she needs interaction, especially other dogs to play with and a person who LOVES her

I called my aunt, a big german shepherd lover, and I asked her if for a while, until I could find a more permanent solution, if kenya could go to her house. she said it was fine, she works from home and has a HUGE property with other dogs and I took kenya there yesterday. It may become kenyas permanent home, it may not be, ive got a lot of thinking to do.

It was the hardest thing ive ever had to do. it would be so easy for me to just leave kenya here, to say that her life at home here is "good enough" and just go to college and know that shes home waiting for me. but I cant do that, it would be the most selfish thing ive ever done. to keep her in a place where shes unhappy so that she could still be there when I get back.

here are the pictures..

Kenya and the crew. zoey is the big GSD and the little yorkie is winston and the pups are zoeys pups (my aunt took her in, she was already pregnant)

I stayed with her all day. and shes happy.. She gets along with zoey very well and loves all the pups of course. my aunt is smitten with her, she fell asleep with all the dogs in the family room. and there is 5 acres of land for her to run around in lol

This may or may not be a permanent thing, I dont know. but for now, I feel its better for kenya.

Well done! You did the right thing. She will be happier at your aunt's with all that stimulation and stuff to do. I think you made a very unselfish and wise choice.

Fran, it's not always easy to do what's best for the dog. Huge kudos to you. It looks like a great home for Kenya! And she's still in the family, so hopefully you'll get to visit often.

I AGREE!

And..........even if that turns into her "permanent" residence, it's not like she's living in the jungles of the Amazon with no street address, LOL, it's your AUNTIES HOUSE! You can see her whenever you like

I see no problem with what you did, she looks happy! And its not like she's at a strangers house, you can see her all the time.

I think Kenya will def enjoy having other dogs to play with! And since she's at your aunts, you'll always be able to visit her when you're home from school.
