My parents dog, the dog I grew up with, passed away last Monday. My mom swore up and down that she would never get another dog, but she and my Dad both confessed to each other that they have been looking at Keeshond websites. Dad is looking at rescues, but Mom refuses to get a rescue. She is worried about the dog having problems. I have tried to convince her that an all breed rescue who has their dogs in foster homes should know enough about their dogs that she should be able to get what she's looking for, but she won't listen. Her neighbor volunteers with the local humane society, and in the past year has taken in two foster dogs that had a lot of issues. I think that may be where this fear of rescues is coming from. My Dad has tried telling her that rescues get puppies too, but she's saying no to that too. Zeus was from a BYB and I would like to prevent them getting one from another BYB if possible. If anyone knows any good Keeshond breeders in NC or the surrounding states, I would be grateful for a recommendation.

Not a lot of info on their site but they show and health test, I just hope all those dogs don't actually live with them but some are co-owned.
vandy They seem to breed too much but otherwise look good. I'd like to know why they have litters so often though. Trumpet Keeshonden That's all I can find right now. wait, found more: Bonnyvale and Karolina Keeshonds - Home New Page 1 Sun-Kiss Keeshond

Bonnyvale is a VERY good kennel, regardless of what is on or is not on their website. They had a bitch to win westminster, and that may not mean much to you but in the kees world that's a BIG deal.
Trumpet is alright- nothing crazy special there IMHO. A-STARZ is a nice kennel if you like "teddy bear" heads. Windrift is good, but expensive. They're in California and they have a very long show history. they have "Cash" who won BOB in Westminster and Eukenuba for many many years in a row. If you like Canadian breeders, I'd go for keeshee. I LOVE LOVE LOVE keeshee dogs, but I'm not sure if they breed anymore. Keesbrook is a fantastic kennel, too. Just google those names and you'll find something. Please please please don't go to a back yard breeder. Rescues are ok. Lots of keesies in rescues that I've come across have had horrible temperaments, so quite frankly I don't blame your mom. Most of them in rescue are BYB. *shrugs* One more thing- You may want to consider traveling out of state to get one. Most of the REALLY good kennels are out west or up north. keeshonden tend not to do well in warmer climates, although you will find people in florida who have them. Why you would want a northern dog in hot weather, I don't know...lol |
