I gave him/her the alternative that I could watch him for those days, so s/he won't have to give him up. I'll love the experience of caring for one of these fellas!

Might want to watch how loudly you tell people about it. In Florida you need a class 3 permit to have a fennec fox.

I know, even the poster mentioned it, I don't want to OWN one at this time, but in the post, the poster says they dislike how it has to be caged for four days because of their job once a month, so hopefully I would just care for it for those days needed!

don't forget you also need a USDA exhibitor permit to posses captive wildlife not being used agriculturally (different permit). getting the permit also makes you liable for proper containment and the minimum amount of exhibitions. i looked into it when the younger daughter was pretty focused on wanting a white fox. the requirements aren't outrageous so if you really want to do it it's best to be above board.

Oh....he is really cute. You know Chihuahuas may be descended (a long time ago, of course) from the Fennec fox. Apparently, not only the looks, but some of their habits are noticable in Chihuahuas...their antics, the things they do with their bodies when they're playing...a little different from most other dogs. Anyhow, I read something about that once. Interesting, huh.

Well...I hope you can do this for her. It would be quite the experience.

Unless its Fl specific, it seems that an exhibitor permit is only required if you exhibit them. From a quick look its a class 3, but nothing else seems required.

Fennecs have 32 chromosomes. Dogs and Wolves have 39. We'd be seeing a lot fewer Chi-poodle crosses if there was Fennec ancestry. Could be a bit of convergent evolution though. Being so small, they would likely develop some similar habits for survival (if not kept as purse dogs at least)
