Default Okay, call me stupid...

But I took in a puppy on Friday. The daughter of one of the women at work found a litter of puppies dumped alongside the road, they might be 8 wks old. Anyway, the girl and her boyfriend caught 3 of the 5, they're still looking for the other 2 but no luck so far.

They found a home for one puppy, thought they had someone to take the remaining two but it didn't work out. So the lady emailed around the office and production plant and the daughter brought the puppies by. Long story short, I agreed to take the little male. (One of the ladies in the production plant took the female.) He's a confident, outgoing little thing, likes everyone he meets (he met half the office on Friday and went to Petsmart and Grandma & Grandpa's on Saturday) He has discovered that cats run from his ear-splitting bark (never saw Mom's black cat move SO fast before).

No clue what he is, the vet thinks there might be some GSD in there and that he'll top out at around 60 lbs. I'm thinking a bit smaller but who knows? He already likes his crate (sleeps in there and hides his favorite toy in there for safe keeping). Hasn't had any accidents yet and he did whine early this morning because he had to go out. Took 3 separate trips before he did everything but I figure that's a good thing if he's connecting the two.

Named him Riley (so he'll fit in with the other boys, Murphy and Michaleen) and we're working on gradual introductions to the older dogs. Murphy and Abby are inclined to ignore him but Mick has a short temper and high prey drive. My neighbor (she's retired) has already agreed to come over during the day to check on Riley and give him lunch.

This is the kid...

He looks just precious. How awful that they were dumped on the side of the road like that. What the human race is capable of absolutely slays me. But it sounds like he's well socialized so far. That's great how he's outgoing like that.

I won't call you stupid. But I will call you a soft touch who is doing a really nice thing for this puppy. I'm sure he'll make a wonderful pet for you.

It will be fun to see how he develops. What a cutie. I wonder what in his background gave him the brindling color. He is adorable.

Well, from the talk around the office, the local Humane Society has started charging people a fee for dropping off dogs (don't know if it's a local or national thing). I can see where they need to since donations are down and maybe they're hoping people will be more responsible about their dogs if they're charged for stupidity but I'm thinking there will be a lot more dogs on the side of the road...

Yeah, soft touch, that's me... anyone got any swamp land they need to get rid of? Lol! Surprisingly, Dad didn't give me his standard lecture about taking in useless animals (usually delivered with a cat on his lap). Mom, always prepared, had a bed ready for his visit (yes, I am my mother's daughter). Riley thought it was a fine toy to drag across the floor.
