What's your take on this article by Iams: Importance of Animal-Based Proteins in Dog Foods
Are they hoping whoever reads this won't look at their ingredients or what?

Too funny. And for those that don't have an Iams bag handy, here's their MiniChunks (regular green bag) ingredients:
Chicken, Corn Meal, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Chicken By-Product Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Flavor, Chicken Meal, Potassium Chloride, Dried Egg Product, Brewer's Dried Yeast, Salt, Flax Meal, Fish Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Caramel, Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), DL-Methionine, Rosemary Extract. See? Chicken is listed 3 whole times (if you don't count 'chicken flavor', whatever the heck that is ...) Then you move the "Chicken" down the list because once the water is removed, there isn't as much there. The next chicken you get is the by-product meal - the chicken junk - and later they throw in the chicken meal. So the way I see it, it's corn, grain junk (I see no use for sorghum) and then we get some chicken ...

It is ironic! Dog food companies always have pictures of meat, or the ads say something like "because dogs need meat!" and then, what are they really selling us?? And then, when you really do feed the dogs actual meat like say, feeding raw...people get all in an uproar because it isn't commercial dog food. Say what?

Shouldn't they be publishing one on the importance of peanut hulls in dog nutrition?
![]() Or better yet, "The Importance of a Good Marketing Campaign in Dog Nutrition."

That is ironic, but it makes sense. Dogs do need meat. And because the company knows this they won't sell your dog a bag of rabbit food, right? lol

The Iams cat commercials. Just as a reminder, folks, CATS ARE OBLIGATE CARNIVORES. Cat Healthy Naturals I laugh a little inside every time I watch it. I had no idea that obligate MEAT EATERS had 4 natural food groups: wholesome chicken, multi-grains, leafy greens and fruit FOR THE HEALTH NATURE INTENDED. I just simply had no idea! LOL at these companies. I wonder what goes on behind the scenes when they think this crap up. |
