Default Pit Thrown From 6th Story of Building PTS

TBO.com - News From AP

Thoughts? I don't know what to think. If the dog is evaluated (it doesn't say by whom) and is considered unpredictably aggressive, should she be PTS, even if a sancuary wants her?

It would be a nice "feel good" story if Oreo had gone on to live a wonderful life, free of fear or aggression issues, but I think sometimes people get so caught up in wanting to have the happy ending, that the dog becomes incidental in it all and sometimes it's best interests are ignored.

Poor baby !!! I almost wish that Oreo had died upon impact and didn't have to suffer .

I don't feel it is right for an organization to spend precious resources on dogs that aren't suited to life with people.

If someone wants to help dogs, there are a gazillion dogs (and great dogs at that!!!) at their doorstep... are they less worthy of life because they haven't been chucked out a window? Why go out of your way to get a hold of an fearfully aggressive dog? At that point I feel it is more about self-gratification than actually helping the species.

(And FTR, if a dysfunctional dog floats your boat, as a personal pet, that doesn't bother me.)

Now it's a free country so obviously anyone can save any personality type they wish to dedicate their time and money to... but if it were my dog I would be doing the same thing as the ASPCA, and the moment they hounded me further I'd give them one of the thousands of absolutely wonderful pit bulls on death row to help... which they would probably reject lol.

NO. A life in a cage is no life for a dog. I have seen this first hand. The rescue I volunteer for keeps some dogs that have HA issues in the Village (sheds with heat/ac and chain link fencing around them). I can see using the Village for the dogs with no issues who have just been passed over to give them a break from the kennels, but keeping HA dogs in the Village for years, well, its sad for the dogs. A few of them are happy enough, but some are not. You only have to look in their eyes to see the loneliness.

RIP Oreo.

no matter how fashionable it seems to be at the moment, i just can't wrap my gut around sanctuary situations for human aggressive dogs. i just do not believe that HA dogs are happy dogs, and i worry that we are putting our need to be righteous in front of their need to be safe.

i also do not understand putting huge amounts of resources into a dog like this when there are zillions more who can be saved and adopted into homes.

What I want to know is what do we get to do to the tool who pitched her in the first place? Over the same rail, maybe?

I can't read the article. I'm depressed enough as it is.

Renee- I think he deserves a good beating before we push him over the rail. I know plenty of Chazzers will be willing to show up and help with that.
I agree that HA does are not happy in general. Neon, who I do not consider a severe case of HA, definatly has times when I can tell he is very unhappy with life. Luckily, they are greatly outweighed by the times he is a joyful little Muppet, but it's still very sad.

Maybe I could set up a refuge for HA dogs one day . . . Sometimes I think they're that way because they're smarter than most
