Default Stressed then relieved *warning: long*

Yesterday I had my Air Force recruiter appointment in Carrollton, dad and I get there and the recruiter was not even there so the Army recruiter across the hall called him and he had FORGOT about my appointment and was in Athens doing other business. Mind you this was the 2nd time HE has rescheduled and last time he almost forgot to tell me he wasn't going to be there.
So dad calls an AF recruiter in Macon he says "I'm sorry I don't have time to talk to your daughter and I'm going to be taking off the rest of the week." He was incredibly rude. I was already frustrated but this fella did not help.
Then we call an AF recruiter in Columbus and she said she'd talk to me. So we drive 2 hours from Carrollton to Columbus, we talk and she's all interested until I said I was homeschooled. She said I needed transcripts, diploma, and some kind of certificate. Well since I didn't do religious courses at that homeschool they didn't give me a diploma. Then she said that the AF's medical and administrative fields were in really low demand so it would take at least a year before I was actually starting and she was kind of getting snappy about it (and I want to do medical more than anything, even if I wasn't going into the military, radiology to be excat). So we talked some more and I was completely upset and frustrated by the time we left I started crying on the way home and I was completely stressed out all night. Not about joining but if I was going to be able to or not because they were giving any reason at all to turn people down.

So last night we called an Army recruiter and he said he'd see me today at 3:30. We get there 20 minutes early and he was there so we started talking then. He was super nice, not a jerk or anything, wasn't FORCING anything on me (which is what I liked verses the AF recruiter yesterday), he explained everything I wanted, helped me out, even had my dad talk to an education specialist about my homeschooling and she said everything was A-OK since I had transcripts. I was sooooo relieved.
I took the 'pre-asvab' and got an 26 which is bad but better than what they said some people were making like 3s, 6s, and barely in the teens & I don't want to seem as if I'm making an excuse as to why I didn't do better but I was nervous and still stressed. But he gave me some stuff to study and if I make a 50 or higher on both the ASVAB and the AIMS exams & I lose 3 inches off my hips/butt and 2 inches off my tummy, then I'm golden. I want to lose about 20 pounds anyways but this is a big motivation to do so.
I want to be in the military more than most people I know that are already in. I grew up in the military, I was born at Moody AFB while my dad was in a combat zone, my dad and granddads were in the Army, my uncle is in the AF, almost all of my friends are military, and I KNOW I can do it. I have the dedication, the motivation, and the heart to do it. I want to go as high as the Army will let me go and I want to do all I can.

Sorry this was so terribly long and that I was whining but I just needed to get it all out.

Oh, geesh, I forgot about the homeschool thing. Yeah, you need a HS diploma for the AF, Navy, too, btw (they won't take GEDs). If I had remembered I would have given you a heads up to check into it. Sorry you had such a crappy experience with the AF recruiters. Just remember- make sure to get any promises in writting, no matter what branch you end up in.

Ugh, yuck. You hear they're so desperate for people, but really...they should be training their recruiters to be a little nicer!

Sounds like you have plenty to study up and work on!

only the army & it's affiliated reserves are "desperate." every other service is currently able to turn people away. when i was recruiting the USMC was growing from 180K to 202K, mission was high & the hours were miserable. now we're at 202k and mission is low & the job is more relaxed.

Doesn't mean the recruiters have to be rude about it!

Thanks yall.
And I know the recruiters are trying to sell their branch but come on, if your an asshole about it noone's going to be pleased. So they should be nicer. My recruiter is a nice man and him & my dad talked alot about other things which shows he's comfortable and we where there for 2.5 HOURS, so that shows he's dedicated.

That sounds like Kole's AF recruiter. She spent hours here a couple of weeks before Christmas, just sitting at the table answering any questions we had, chatting, etc. She won't let a recruit sign the papers until she's met the parents, even her recruits that are 18. When she picked Kole up the day he left for BMT, she brought AF t-shirts for us, including one for Caleb. She's a gem, that's for sure.

Awww she sounds so amazing. I'm glad yall got someone like her.
My recruiter met my dad but not my mom and probably won't til I ship out for BCT and thats if my mom drives 4 hours to do so, which I'm not holding my breath on happening because she likes it her way or noway, but seriously this is going to be a big step in MY life at least be there for me. OK I'm done ranting about her.

I know you weren't saying their rudeness was okay, I just think they should be nicer. I'm already going to get a load of meanness at Basic I don't want it from my recruiter to lol.
