Default Sales people...(in person) How do you handle them?

Here's a scenario I went through yesterday at a good sized mall.

I was in the mall with my family. We split up because the guys wanted to look at things of no interest to us woman folk, and vice versa. So I was walking with my two daughters and you all know the little center sales booths.........ear piercing, jewelry, massages, just anything random you could dream up.

We walked up one side of the "fairway" and there was a nail/hand booth with several, SEVERAL workers standing around it handing out little packet samples of "stress relief" lotion. A guy started out handing me one of the little packets, to which I said "oh, thank you" and dropped it in my bag. He then tried the old "can I ask you something?" and I said "I am in a hurry, so no, not right now" *smiles at him* and I keep walking. Ok, he wishes me a nice day and that was that.

We walk all the way to the end of that side, shop the places we want to shop, and then start down the other side as we normally do. We get back down to the same nail/hand booth and on this side was a lady. She starts to hand me another little packet to which I say "no thank you" I mean, I already have one, I don't need another right? LOL Then she uses the same line "can I ask you something?" I say "no, I have no time right now"..........ok, this wasn't good enough for HER unlike her partner. She PHYSICALLY grabs my hand and exclaims "are your nails natural? They are beautiful! I have just the thing for them"

Mmmmmmmmmmk, my nails do grow easily and I try to keep them in decent shape but I am not under delusions of them being beautiful, LOL

I tell her yes they are, and no thank you I have no time. Well she DOESN'T let go of my hand and tries to keep selling I try to keep walking but she has my hand!!

I finally had to say *very rudely* "NO THANK YOU" AND JERK MY HAND AWAY!!!

My daughters were shocked...........not by what I said to her, but by what I DIDN'T say to her! They think I should have said something more like "get the **** off me!" LOL

How do you handle them? Are you polite until backed into a corner? Or do you remain polite no matter WHAT they do?

I have never been in that situation, and normally I am very polite to strangers.

But I believed if they grabbed me and wouldn't let go, I believe I would be threatening a lawsuit, and then I'm sure she would let go fast.

I HATE those people... I keep walking and dont make eye contact... I also dont say No thank you anymore because any little "in" they find and they jump all over you.

I just look straight ahead and walk fast... from now on I may need to also keep my hands in my pockets, haha.

Yep, that's what I do too.

I had one guy actually get RUDE with me last year at one of those booths in the outlet malls... and I told him off.

I treat them much like I do sketchy homeless people at night... like the don't exist Justin and my mom don't understand how I do it and I'm always telling both of them not to make eye contact in the mall! The only time people at kiosks get my attention is when they come bearing candy and talking about charities lol.

It really was quite shocking to me. I haven't had to deal with one quite so aggressive.......at least not PHYSICALLY aggressive like that

It's just in my nature to make eye contact and smile at everyone around me.......it's ingrained in me and who I am. People have always told me I smile WAY too much and look suspicious doing so! LOL, People at work always used to accuse me of being "too happy" to be there and made them look bad, hahaha

I was unprepared as to what to say or what to do........you can bet I'll be ready next time! LOL

I was at the mall with arielle and alexis one afternoon and we really were in a hurry. This girl at some hair booth stopped her and did the whole "oh your hair is so beautiful, is that your natural color" to arielle as we walked by. Mind you.. she hadn't washed it that day and it was whipped up in a pony tail and she had roots showing..lol

The lady kept trying to get arielle to come sit in her chair so she could show her some wonderful products that would be perfect for her hair type. Arielle told her she had no money to buy any of these products but the woman was so dang persistent. Needless to say, she roped arielle into sitting in the chair where she proceeded to use this hair straightener and some products on her hair. She spent about 10 minutes or so fixing her hair for her and naturally, expected arielle to buy some products from her. Arielle thanked her and went on her way.

I also had this guy at a nail buffing booth stop me and told me how beautiful my nails were. My nails are nothing other than ordinary. He started buffing my thumb nail and making it shine. I told him I had no money on me and it didn't matter what spiel he was going to give me, I would not be purchasing anything from him at that time. He quickly released me from his focus once I made it clear there would be no money involved..lol

I avoid the people in the mall kiosks by never going to the mall. Simple as that

They remind me of pan handlers or something. How difficult is it to understand "no thank you, I'm not interested" ?? They are like vultures coming in for the kill. I think they should be more respectful and back off when the person clearly says they are not interested.
